How is everyone doing this week? I have been maintaining rather than losing since I got back from VA but I have started exercising regularly since I returned. I've found that if I get my butt on the treadmill 3-4 mornings a week and then do strength training at the gym 3 times a week I eventually see the results on the scale... as long as I only drink wine on weekends LOL I also discovered that in the 2 years that I have not been a regular gym goer I have lost a lot of flexibility and strength :( That was a pretty significant wake-up call. I'm tracking my weight levels to see how long it takes me to get back to where I was... *sigh*

The October issue of Discover magazine has an interesting article on weight loss science. It looks at time-restricted feeding. The most popular pattern is 18 (not eating) to 6(eating hours) . Alternate day fasting and intermittent fasting (defined as fasting one day or several days a week; most popular is 5 eating days : 2 fasting days) are discussed. On fasting days some people consume about 500 calories so there are variations of fasting. It sounds as though, while not for everyone, fasting patterns have an edge over traditional daily limited calorie diets. The explanation is that this is how eating patterns evolved as a species with times of plentiful food and times of less. The bottom line, as I read it, is that losing weight is an on-going battle no matter what plan you follow. I am thinking about trying the 5:2 fasting pattern for awhile and will give myself a break from hunting and gathering from the fridge two days a week.

Well I wasn't planning on joining my dietbet that started last week until eating like an a-hole combined with time of the month bloating for a reality check. Joined my game late and got back to eating more reasonable (though still not quite great) yesterday and am already down over a pound! It's going to be tricky having to be extra good since I joined late but clearly I needed the motivation!! I also joined Lexi's game (fatgirlfedup) today and may join one more.
