Last July, I agreed to do the Spartan kid's race with my niece. Here's that blog post: Spartan Strong

For those who do not like to click stuff, I was overconfident. I had lost about 40 lbs at that point, figured it was for kids so it would be easy, and that we'd walk because my niece doesn't like running. We crossed the finish line and I felt so deflated - like I hadn't made *any* progress.

So, I'm a sucker for punishment. I agreed to do it again. But this time I was more prepared. I knew it would be hard. The location this year is considered to be one of the harder spots. I knew my niece would suddenly like to run. So I was worried that I would 'fail' again and be ashamed of myself. I prepared myself to be a blubbering mess after the photo was taken.

And I'm not going to lie, this year was not easy. But my niece ran out of steam early on when I could have kept going. And if I was a mean aunt, I really could have beat her to the finish line.

Now, it's probably not normal to compare your fitness level with that of a five-year-old, but I will take whatever I can get.

Next up on the fitness front: various virtual 5Ks, 25 km bike ride, Foam Fest 5K, and the Tough Mudder (at which point I will retire from the fitness world and lounge in a hammock).
