Here it is, 1:18am and I am up telling you to get your 8 hours of sleep.  I suppose everyone battles insomnia sometime in their lives and tonight it’s my turn.  My brain won’t shut off and the scale won’t budge.  Connection? Maybe.

An article from Shape online suggests that too little sleep slows the metabolism.  They called it, metabolic grogginess.  And to top it off, this lack of sleep might actually cause your body to hold onto fat! Great…

The article goes on to suggest that the next day, after a sleepless night, people tend to crave more food and eat more. Well that does make sense. When I am tired I will eat sweet food. You know, for that ‘instant’ energy to get me through the day.  You can read the article for yourself and come to your own conclusions: http://www.shape.com/lifestyle/mind-and-body/why-sleep-no-1-most-important-thing-better-body

What can we do about it?

First, I am going to not take a nap tomorrow, so I will be nice and tired by bedtime.  I will get plenty of exercise. And tomorrow evening I will have a cup or two of chamomile tea. I might even try a cup tonight or should I say this morning? It is supposed to ease away insomnia.

Now, if your scale isn’t budging and you think you are doing everything right, then you might want to check your sleep schedule and make sure you are getting enough sleep.
