Tomorrow I am going to Taste of Sanford, which is a local "taste of" event close to where I live. Normally I'd avoid these types of things as much as possible, but the event is close, cheap (only $5 holla!), and a good excuse to go walking. I've been doing REALLY well these past couple weeks nutritionally and have not eaten out at all (although I did spend a fair bit at the grocery store - oops). But, I can't stay holed up in my house forever ignoring the outside world. I really have to exercise willpower too. So, I want to go to one of these events BUT I want to go into it with a plan for success. So, without further ado, here is how I plan to navigate this:

  • Eat something beforehand so I'm not compeletely starved when I get there
  • When I get to the event, survey the area to see all the samples they are offering so I can pick and choose the best ones accordingly
  • Try to find as big of a plate as possible to put all the samples on (instead of eating them one by one)
  • Take a picture of the entire plate, or if not possible, a picture of all the samples before I eat it to help me track better
  • Track as best as I can in MyFitnessPal
  • Go for the proteins. Try to avoid carbs like bread, snacks, chips, etc.
  • Bring a bunch of water with me and sip on that as much as possible
  • Make sure to hit my 10,000 steps on my Fitbit to offset

So tomorrow, we will see how I really do. I plan to share pictures of food I take and hopefully I can come back successful. Samples are my weakness, so I really want to practice more mindful eating. Also, I'm hoping since it's only $5 I won't feel compelled to eat a BUNCH of food like I have at other "Taste of" events that cost upwards of $040.

Stay tuned!
