A couple years back I entered A Biggest Loser contest at my local gym and won with a total weight loss of 54 lbs. Unfortunatley, not unlike most succesful weight loss stories, I gained it all back plus a few lbs. Not an isolated incident in my struggle with the fat monster. All of the physical roadblocks have again reared their ugly heads, hard breathing after a flight of stairs, discomfort while tying my shoes, XL shirts are way too snug, loss of motivation to get any exercise in at all, snoring loud enough to chase my wife from our bed etc. The last on the list leading to a consultation with the Doc, resulting in a CPAP machine and being told concerns of high blood pressure and possible beginning stages of diebeties. Wow, those are only problems for unhealthy old fat guys right? HEY, IS THAT COFFEE I SMELL?

My bride of 15 years is more tolerant with me than I could wish for. She is a commited gym junkie as well as a group fitness instructor. For her to watch my ups and downs paticularly my weight, and not scrutinize my unhealthy decisions takes a load of patience and a whole lot more love. I should not take this for granted and I refuse to cut short our relationship by dying off before my time beacause of a lack of will power. Hopefully this doesn't come across as melodramatic, but I think the proof of what obesity can cause as far as health issues has been proven time and time again.

I am intensly focused on hitting my goals, but the big picture, the most important picture is sustainability. When I get to my end goal, what then is my plan of attack? I am not sure if there is group of previous winners who have met their final goal weight and have the DietBet data to start a new group who's goal would be to maintain "end goal weight" but maybe that would be a good idea.

I will add my current methods I am using for exercise and cutting calories along with maintaining nutritional values required for healthy, long term weight loss in later blogs.
