My nickname is Gumby.
I am currently 6’2”, 51 years old, 198 pounds and 19% body fat.
A little background information:
2015 was a very interesting year for me. Up until 14 months ago I was an ultra long distance hiker who was lean with very little muscle mass. I had tried for years to put on muscle only to fail miserably. I found out I was doing everything wrong to put on muscle and everything right to stay lean and excel at long distance endurance hiking (500 Mile Trips). I learned I was working out so hard with cardio training that I was burning up all my available calories and leaving nothing to build muscle.
A blessing in hiding — I injured my left knee skiing 14 months ago. This injury required me to stop all cardio training. I needed something to do or I was going to go crazy. A good friends wife had recently had great success transforming her body while using the Body Beast program. She recommended that I give Body Beast a try as she believed it would help me put on the muscle I have been struggling with for years.
Since beginning Body Beast I have been in bulk mode. I have been eating more food than I ever have before in my life. Actually I have been clean eating 3200 calories per day. This has given me a surplus of nutrition which has allowed me to build muscle. One of the toughest things to accept as part of this process is that any calories that are not turned into muscle are turned into fat.
When I started Body Beast I was 180 pounds and about 13% body fat. After one year of bulking, I was put on 30 pounds of weight and 9% body fat. So when I finished the bulk phase of my training my total weight was 210 pounds and a whopping 22% body fat.
As of 2016: I have been trying to cut the fat and I now weigh 198 pounds with 19% body fat. My guess is I lost 10 pounds of fat and 2 pounds of muscle which is probably wishful thinking but it is nonetheless an educated guess.
When I saw Sagi’s Stand in Your Power with The Beast diet bet, I thought this would be a great inspiration to drop another 8 pounds and get closer to my goal of 6 Pack abs by the end of 2016.
