What a novel concept! Until I heard of this website, I never considered pitting my love of Carbs and Cookies against my competitive nature and disdain for losing a bet! So far, so good though. I am a little over two weeks into a couple of challenges and well over half-way to my goal weight. (which is only a goal for the next two weeks - because even when I reach it, its too large a number for me). I'm pretty confident - so much so that I entered another game, and that makes three.
My family moved into a new house in January and I gained 35 pounds. I'm not sure how that happened, but my wife took a picture of me asleep in a recliner over labor day weekend and posted it on FaceBook. I was more than a little embarrassed.
I'm 6'5" and have always said, 'when I gain ten pounds, it's not as noticeable as when someone 5'9" gains 10' and I have come to realize this is only true if I don't gain those ten pounds three and a half times before I decide to do something about it!
So here I am, as Charlie Sheen would put it - WINNING!
There was really not a doubt in my mind that I could do this - I just needed a little motivation and/or incentive.
I've kind of plateaued over the last couple of days but I'm not scared. I am eating better than I have in years and exercising like it's going out of style. I even pulled a few of Tony Horton DVDs out and dusted them off - does anyone still own a DVD player???
That all being said - I never considered the collateral damage this would do. I didn't intentionally go out to cut carbs out of my diet - it just so happens that eating healthy just doesn't leave much room for them. I haven't put a crouton on my salad for better than two weeks (which is really sad, because I make GREAT croutons), but I stole one of my wife's plate the other night. I just about lost a finger.
IT seems that carb withdrawal is a real thing. Like any other form of withdrawal I suppose - it makes people irritable. I may have to make the family pancakes this weekend -- I think I can afford a cheat day, but I'll be upset if it costs me too much!
Thanks Dietbet for giving me some sort of incentive to get off my butt. I'm going to run the spell checker and do some push-ups, just because!
