Tired of listening to a Clash of Kings on iTunes, I decided to shift my nerd gears towards all the techy things I use when trying to be healthy.

I count calories. I use the MyFitnessPal App (http://www.myfitnesspal.com) to keep track of the food I eat. You set a calorie goal and you can log your food and workouts to see many calories you have left to eat. I will tell you from experience that eating only 1,200 calories a day will leave you tired and cranky. Honestly, we just don't have enough fat on us to only eat 1,200 calories a day.

When I run, I use MapMyFitness App (http://www.mapmyfitness.com) on my phone. It tells you your pace, how many calories you have burned and it keeps a history of your workouts. It also connects with MyFitnessPal, so you don't have to enter information twice.

Along with iPhone apps, I use my Fitbit Flex (https://www.fitbit.com) to keep track of my daily steps and my Garmin Forerunner 220 (http://www.garmin.com/en-US). Both of these devices sync with MyFitnessPal. If you have a GPS enabled watch or other device, you don't need to use the MapMyFitness App. It does the same thing and will create a conflict when everything syncs. The Garmin came with a heart rate monitor, which is better for figuring out calories burned during non running activities e.g. Crossfit, circuit training or weight training.

For me, my money keeps me accountable, so I have started doing this thing called GymPact (http://www.gym-pact.com). With GymPact, I say I am going to workout four times a week and I set monetary amount I am willing to pay if I miss a day. If you don't miss any days you get paid. You can also make a food log bet, if you are using MyFitnessPal. You say that you will log your food and you get paid if you do and charged if you don't. You set the amount you are willing to wager. Your activities in MyFitnessPal and MapMyFitness also sync with GymPact. While it isn't much, I have earned $2.22 for activities I was already doing.

And here is our mascot.
