In order to keep on track despite a crazy schedule, I have come up with a five step plan.

Step 1: Set short term and long term goals. My short term goal is winning the transformer bet! My long term goal is making peace with food.

Step 2: Choose an unhealthy food habit to break. Work on this habit for at least two weeks before you expect to see results. Be patient and forgiving. Never say never. To start with, I will work on portion control. I love to eat.

Step 3: Follow a rule of life. Set a time for waking, for going to bed; for eating, for praying, for meditating, for exercising, for hygiene, for pleasure, for cleaning, for spending time with those you love, for doing good works...

...Fill in your schedule starting with the most important things to the least. Prioritize. First things first. It is hard for me to stick to a schedule but everything runs smoother when I do. I eat healthier, I get more done, my life is more serene. Plus I get so much more accomplished.

Step 4: Be accountable. Each evening, spend some time going over your particular behavior that you are trying to change. How did you do? Pray for strength if you failed, thank God for helping you if you succeeded. Identify pitfalls-then avoid them tomorrow. A journal might be a good idea.

Step 5: Be flexible and adjust your schedule if you need to. Keep working on it until it is realistic and something you really can follow. Keep reevaluated if this is a lifelong commitment.

Be reasonable and keep it real.
