Did my first outdoor run today, ever! And I can tell you this much: My life is forever changed!!!
I have been training on treadmills for the past six months because winters in Alberta, Canada are both cold and icy, and I was really worried about getting injured while I was still new to running.
My fastest time for a 5km on the treadmill had been 29.56...slow, but given that I started at 45 minutes, I was feeling pretty happy with my progress. I had also done a few 10 km runs in about 60 minutes, so I knew that my pace was pretty steady for longer races.
As I set out for my 5km run this morning, I was really intimidated. Running outside always seemed scary to me. I usually watch Netflix on my phone while I run...I had never trained to just music before. And, again, I had never run on pavement...and had no idea what to expect.
I kept my goal realistic: 5km in 40 minutes...lots of time for breaks as needed.
Well, I made it...and then some! Today, I did a 6.99 km run in 0:34:58!! I beat my fastest treadmill time of 6.3 MPH by over a full mile per hour!!! And the best part? I could have easily kept going for a full 10km!
I feel so pumped. I've never considered myself to be a runner until today. And for the first time ever, I am feeling really confident about my triathlon and half marathon this summer!!
Capped the night off with a T25 Cardio work out and a interval of Arms/Back/ABs (1 min plank/25 push ups/ 50 crunches) X 4...
Feeling pretty fantastic.
Tomorrow morning I weigh in for my second dietbet of this round. I am still super bloated from that time of the month, but feel pretty confident that this will be a successful four week run for me. :)
Have a great night everyone!
