Good morning everyone! This post is for the ladies in our group, but guys, please read and share with the ladies in your life.

In 2001, at the age of 37 and a year after the birth of my 2nd son, I started experiencing non-stop periods. I went to my OB/GYN and he said, oh it's just because you're perimenopausal, it's hormonal changes and will stop. After almost 4 weeks of constant bleeding, I had this feeling in my gut that "something is not right" and I went back to my OB/GYN. After pretty much demanding that something was not right, he did a vaginal ultrasound and found a 3 inch tumor in my uterus! Needless to say, the following week I had surgery to remove the tumor and underwent a few rounds of chemo to be on the safe side. Since then, I've had abnormal pap smears several times which I then have to go in for a colposcopy and biopsies (NOT fun!!). Well, last month I went for my regular annual checkup and of course it came back abnormal, so today I had a colposcopy and 4 biopsies were taken. So, now I wait once again and pray the results are negative for cervical cancer.

Ladies, I can't stress to you enough the importance of having your annual exam. If there is the slightest history of cervical, or uterine or any type of female cancer in your family, make sure to tell you OB/GYN, and insist they do a pap every year. If you have irregular periods, or feel anything just isn't right with your lady parts (periods, pain, discharge, smell, painful intercourse, etc.) make sure you discuss it with your doctor. Be your own advocate, and never be afraid or embarrassed to discuss it with your doctor. That is why they chose their profession, to help you.

OK, I'm stepping down from my soapbox now. I hope everyone is having a fantabulous day!

I appreciate you telling your story, Ellen and I hope your tests come back negative. Thanks for posting this because I'm taking it as a gentle prod that I need to take care of myself. I haven't had a PAP or Mammogram in 8 years. I just forget about it because I'm not experiencing any problems. Silly thing to say when I know better. I'll call tomorrow and make an appointment .

Prayers for you and for good rest results!
