Kinda freaked out here....I walk my dog every single day...3 times a day. I have since I rescued her in April. Morning noon and night. And I average about 13,000 steps per day. Yesterday after my noon walk, my knee started making popping noises. Nothing painful. I just thought maybe I did something to it by sitting at my office chair with my leg tucked under me. Otherwise I have not done anything strenuous with it. I went on a shorter evening walk with Zadee (the dog) and started limping a bit. Then it really started hurting. Not extremely painful, but enough to know it is not normal! I iced it and took some Advil. Today it doesn't hurt but that popping/clicking is still there. I'm afraid to go on my walks in case I tore something. And honestly, I don't want to go to a Dr. because of covid. UGH. Anyway, just venting a bit. I usually have bout 4,000 steps by now and I am only at 714. :(

I’d go to the dr. But as someone who won’t go anywhere bc of covid, I totally get what you’re saying. If you decide not to go, I’d get a knee brace and take a few days off going for long walks. If you have a fenced yard and can just let your dog go out back for a few days to rest it, I’d do that too instead of the walks all together. I hope it’s nothing bad and you feel better soon!

Hi. I too am an avid walker and hiker. When I tend to overdo it my knees will pop. According to my doctor, it is gas build up in my knees. Perhaps it is in yours as well. This explanation may help. :)

From time to time gas can build up in the areas surrounding your joint forming tiny bubbles in the synovial fluid. When you bend your knee the bubbles burst. This is normal and happens to everyone from time to time. It doesn’t cause pain.
