  • I have a 2 hour break between hs and ms and I don’t hate it. I read her book on girls & sex this spring.

I'm glad you're teaching this stuff. It's so important!!!

My mom was a public health nurse who worked at the sexual health clinic and also came to schools to do sex ed, as many gym/health teachers didn't feel comfortable doing it. She was known around town as "the condom lady" and more than a couple friends freaked out the first time they came to our house and realized that they knew my mom from a totally different context (like STD testing, abortion counselling, birth control clinic) and were suddenly really uncomfortable. She was pretty awesome about it though, and never let on that she knew anyone or anything.

And despite growing up in this incredibly open environment where all the facts could be discussed, it was still awkward to talk to my mom about the emotional/interpersonal side of things. Probably just because she was *my* mom. Families are weird like that.

I wish we could pass out condoms!! And I love teaching sex ed! I don’t have kids, but I can’t imagine having that conversation w my mom. Eek!
