How do you verify the weight loss?

For all official weigh-ins, you'll be prompted to submit your official starting weight. Our standard weigh-in process involves you submitting 2 photos: one of you standing on a scale in lightweight clothing (no shoes, hats, belts, watches, coats, or outerwear), and another of the scale’s readout with your weigh-in word written on a piece of paper.

What you'll need

  • A scale (preferably digital)
  • A digital camera or smartphone
  • A full-length mirror or someone to take your photo

Does this actually work?

Out of 854,629 DietBetters, 98.71% have lost weight during their challenges. Combined, they've lost 15,377,046 lbs and won $62,263,235. In other words...yes.

All results shown on DietBet are from actual users. Individual results may vary.

Don't take our word for it

question...If there were only 406 winners on this bet with $21665 shouldn't we have won about $10.56 more than we did? I calculated $53.36 not 42.80.... is there some kind of fees that I overlooked?

I think you guys are right --it does take money to run the website (and it is a very good website!). I guess we are used to free services (FB, calorieking, myfitnesspal) that are supported by advertising. And we are willing to spend a lot of money to lose weight --often on crap that doesn't work. So the fact that they take a 20% cut seems okay to me. I am happy I joined, and I will do it again if I need to lose weight. It was fun, it was effective, and it cost me nothing. Thanks for being a reasonable voice and explaining.

I think that their cut is much deserved. I am now on my 3rd dietbet. It has been the motivation that I have needed to put me back on track.

I've created my own dietbet:
I'm going to check in daily to keep everybody motivated!

I was a verified winner, but now at the top it says I didn't win! Did this happen to anybody else?

That's really strange.

Teri Y.

Did you get an email to confirm it?

I wanted to redo this dietbet but refuse to pay the extra registration fee as its half the cost of your winnings almost. I found another bet with 18 days to go for free. might be hard but fingers crossed

I also was going to redo the Diet
Bet, but refuse to pay the extra cost. I'll try another contest that doesn't require almost half of what you win.

I don't understand this "redo"thing. Can someone explain??\

I'm seriously annoyed by the new $4.95 "registration" charge. I joined another only because I had promised a friend I'd do it, but won't be joining any more. I'd probably be ok with a one-time registration charge, but this is ridiculous - especially since they're cliaming they're providing "benefits" which consist of advertisements.

When signed up for Sandy's Kitchen August DietBet, I found that there's a new registration fee. It said it was waived for "early adopters" but I had to pay it. Are you going to sign up for another bet?

I totally agree. I don't want to pay to receive more email fluff - and I already have been professionally and medically assessed.

I won, but I'm doing another one right away. My scaled died (well---mostly died----it only displays part of the number) so I had to use the gym scale (which is right in the middle of the gym!!) for my weightout. I'm not replacing it for a couple of months. I really need to not weight in everyday! So I'll see some of you on another dietbet!

Gosh, that's really accountability...weighing out in front of the whole gym! Congrats on your success so far!

Frederic, did you get an answer to that? I just went to do the August one and saw that too. I'm not paying that unnecessary fee.

According to their FAQ[1], they waive the fee for early adopters. I have been on the site since April, and have had my fees waived on all recent games. The fee covers a "personalized" guide, but having received the guide + offers, I can't say it's worth the five bucks unless you're totally new to weight loss. I also think that if you pay the fee once, you shouldn't have to keep paying as long as you keep joining new Bets - if you leave for a few months or something, that'd be more reasonable. [1]

On mine it waived the fee...Frederick, waiving the fee means they will not charge that fee. In other words, they will allow me to play other games without paying that $4.95 fee.
