How do you verify the weight loss?

For all official weigh-ins, you'll be prompted to submit your official starting weight. Our standard weigh-in process involves you submitting 2 photos: one of you standing on a scale in lightweight clothing (no shoes, hats, belts, watches, coats, or outerwear), and another of the scale’s readout with your weigh-in word written on a piece of paper.

What you'll need

  • A scale (preferably digital)
  • A digital camera or smartphone
  • A full-length mirror or someone to take your photo

Are there any games starting in Feb but AFTER Valentine's Day?

Of course. Just search/find games. Some games are already scheduled for March. Keep in mind that organizer can continue to start games in the future.

I am not sure I got my money back from the last game?

I still don't know how much I get back

  • $6 Plus The original investment. To me, it has been like a free accountability club for the last two years. I've lost and maintained 75 pounds off. I've received all of my money back plus a small percentage over. Have not seen any other diet program, fitness program etc. that is essentially free, that works so well! If i was looking to invest money for a good return Id go to the stock market. DB has been a great bet for me!

When do we get the winnings? I paid with PayPal... and so far nothing in there yet. Any ideas?

It should be on your dietbet account under "points". There you can request a payout. From your phone you can click the menu button at the top left and then select points. Hope this helps!

Thanks Amanda!

I guess if you understand how the game is set up, then it makes more sense. DietBet takes 25% of the GROSS investments from the players. They will give back part of their 25% if more people win to guarantee players get their investment back. So if a high amount of people are successful, the payout will be minimal (which is what we've seen for January). The link below shows the information that was provided to the U.S. Government when WayBetter, Inc was setting up to sell stocks. It explains the business model in more detail. In actuality, DietBet has not been profitable as of this filing. I think DietBet is working hard and trying to make a successful company. So far, they've provided a platform for people to get together and to try and win their own money back with maybe a little extra at the end. I wish them luck! I know I've been able to lose weight with their set up.

It's in the rules karinne everyone should know this when they join

Here it is from DietBet's web page.

"DietBet keeps a cut of the gross pot to cover our expenses, which include financial transaction costs for both the initial bet and the payout, weight-verification staff, customer service, and technology support. Because DietBet's fees are taken out of the gross pot before paying out the winners, players who do not win do not incur any fees. The current fee to play is 10-25% of the payout depending on the amount of the initial bet.

Monthly Bet DietBet Fee
$0-99 25%
$100-249 20%
$250-500 15%
$500+ 10%
UPDATED: December 5, 2013.

New "No Lose Guarantee"
This guarantee ensures that if you win your dietbet, you won't lose money. Most winners make money (about 1.5 to 2x on average) but in the event that your game has an unusually high percentage of winners, we'll forfeit our cut in order to ensure that nobody loses money. So the worst case scenario is that you'll end up losing weight for free, which is still a big win."

Just a thought.,, if you join a gym.. it costs YOU money .. if you have a personal trainer .. it costs YOU.. if you join weight watchers or a slimming group .. it costs YOU money., if you buy weight loss supliments .. it costs YOU money .. you want to lose weight YES ? You decide to bet on yourself which means to some extent you have faith in yourself .. if you try your hardest and lose weight making your goal and getting support from thousands on the way your a winner and diet bet held your $30 for you and you got back your money it cost you NOTHING then they give you a return of 20% on your money ... yoy lost weight but nothing else nothing at all .. your healthier you have your money back why all the negativity about only winning $6 in any other circumstance you would be out of pocket not putting back your money into your pocket .. where can you get this kind of support for free or get paid for it ? Nowhere .. come on people it's a no brainier really . I'm pleased so many won the bet means it's all worth it and getting my money back is icing on the cake.. congratulations for making a great choice to lose weight and on getting your money back . X

Well put!

Nicole L.

I lost but I am not crying because I still manage to drop a little weight. The support I received from every was well worth $30.

I am surprised that with this many people the payout is only $6. Glad that most people made their goal...but my last dietbet paid 25 and was much much smaller.

I'm surprised too! I had another DietBet win today and the payout was $21 extra

Tanya H.

January is always the most successful month for people. You'll win more back if you join a bet in the summer months.
This is all based on percentage of winners, so the number of players is completely irrelevant.

I just completed 3 separate diet bets this week. All of them ended with 62% of the entry pool reported as winners. I find this highly peculiar since the number of entrants ranged from 3,730 to 14,734 and they ended on three different days. Is this a bizarre coincidence? Is there a cap set up on the final tally and distribution to winners? Is there a glitch in the reporting system? Either way, I find this situation odd and am extremely wary of participating in future diet bets due to concerns in reporting and fairness to winners.

Maybe a lot of the winners did all 3 at the same time like you did?

I'm really disappointed in this app. I hit my goal and then some. I have had nothing but trouble with the app. The only time I didn't have trouble was when I had to pay. Tech support hasn't been helpful. I put my final weight and pictures in and it wouldn't allow me to submit. I feel like I won't be doing another game on here. I'm really upset
