  • We use a lot of dried split peas and lentils and while I was picking those up, I saw a dried bean mix with 16 types of legumes, it said “16 bean soup” and I thought wouldn’t it be fun to make a 16 bean chili, or 16 beans and rice, or 16 bean soup. The packages always say to rinse your legumes and inspect them for rocks. I’ve done this hundreds of times and never found anything… until now! I was eating my 17 bean Chili (I added a tofu crumble for texture (OK it was so I could up the bean count)) and all of a sudden, I felt something “rock” hard between my teeth. You guessed it, it was a rock, but this rock would be impossible for a rookie 17 bean eater like me to pick out of the bag!
    It’s pretty easy to pick out of a line up though… or is it? Lets play a game look at the photo of all the beans and the rock today. Guess which one is the rock, if you want to play on expert mode you can try to identify a few extra (technically they are not all beans, some are lentils, and peas).

The picture was a little pixilated for me, but the 9 I guessed I knew were right - including the rock.

When I made my New Year's resolutions this year, I decided this would be the "year of the beans." Bought a boat-load of organic beans, lentils, and barley from Nuts.com and made my own mix. I make a huge pot of something with the bean mix+veggies+seasonings every other week. Usually decided by what is in the fridge/pantry at the time. Almost always turns out good. :thumbsup:

My body hates me! My weight always drops down the day AFTER a weigh in. Oh well, lost round 1 but have a new goal to go after.
I think I swelled up due to starting my marathon training. My body always fights me when I first start training.

Keith A. This is my 3rd attempt. First time I had to downsize to a half marathon because my legs quit working and put me in hospital for 2 days just 4 weeks before race. 2nd attempt COVID shut everything down.

  • I was so tired this morning, I was like, "OMG, what *happened* to my overnight oats?? Oh...". Grabbed the wrong jar (right is overnight oats, left is Big Mac salad. Since the jars are pretty small I add the lettuce separately).

Here's the overnight oats recipe. I cut the portion size in half and use chocolate PB2 instead of peanut butter. I have to say that a lot of different diet and fitness trends and gadgets have caught my eye over the years, but PB2 is one of the few that's stuck around (and Jessica Smith workouts, but you knew that...at least when I'm actively trying, heh):
