  • 8 days of exercise!! 21 day Fix abs, upper, and lower. I got done 10 minutes ago and still can't peel myself off the floor. 😅 I did a fasting workout, so I know I need food .... but i think I might need a shower even more! ????

  • 6 days in a row! Everyone wanted in on it (getting in Mom's way) today, lol. I've been doing the 21 day Fix videos: 10 minute abs and one of the 30 minute videos each day. Today I did the abs and 2 of the 30 minute workouts! I hate the yoga one ... I'm not flexible, I can't do a lot of the moves, abe my back hurts after ... so i snuck it in after Dirty 30 when I was already warm, instead of making excuses not to do it tomorrow.

TIP OF THE DAY: Dealing with get-togethers and parties- I'm not one to EVER skip enjoying myself at a party. However, I've practiced for years on how to control how much I consume in these events. But like anyone else, I had to START to learn. So some tips you can use are:
EAT A SMALL MEAL, before attending. The fuller you are before arriving, the less you'll consume. And usually, for me, I'm just consuming small amounts foods that I hardly ever get to eat in normal day life.
Eat vegetables first: In the event you arrive there and couldn't get in a meal, try to consume a good amount of vegetables instead of the higher calorie dense dishes first. Again, this will help to leave less room to overindulge.
Exercise or do physical activity before the event. I ALWAYS workout harder on Thanksgiving day and Xmas cause I know I'll want to eat foods that in my culture aren't the healthiest option. Try to offset calories burned with calories consumed.
Socialize more instead of eating. It's so easy to start mindlessly eating. Engaging in conversation helps you to keep putting food in your mouth.
Be a helpful guest by offering to help clean up. You'll be a favorite guest and helping to clean up again helps to keep from mindlessly snacking and the moving around helps to burn extra calories.

We had a family brunch today. I worked out abs had breakfast a few hours before, but didn't shy away from the higher calories foods, i just had a little of everything tasty looked too good to pass up ... and a bunch of fruit.

  • Yikes ... I finally added in exercise. 21 Day Fix videos (10 minute abs and total body cardio). It took longer than I intended (I was going to start on Monday) but it's been a crazy week. The important thing is that I've started, and will hopefully stick with it.

Let's talk about support systems!
1. Do you have an accountability buddy? (And not DietBet, an actual person who helps hold you accountable for your goals

2. If you have a partner/significant other etc, do they support your health and fitness goals? If so how? ACTIVELY (planning healthy meals with you. Working out with you, avoiding any triggers you may have. PASSIVELY (not stopping you or being counter productive to you goals)

3. How are you using your DietBet teammates (and the app)?

For me
1. I do not have an accountability buddy. I tend to be compulsive and highly competitive, so I avoid "bugging oters". I feel like I push myself a lot already!

2. My partner switches between passive support and being count productive. She is not happy with her health, but is unwilling to do anything about it. I run in the mornings to get my workout in before she wakes up. We plan meals together (mostly me), but that's about where it goes. She does not have a competitive bone in her body, so I haven't told her I am on DietBet again. I don't want her to feel bad that I am losing weight and she isn't trying.

3. I love the app and the people I connect with keep me motivated. Some games have more participation (which I like), sometimes, I feel like I am one of the few who posts. I have found that the mo re e involved I am on the app, the more consistent I am with my workouts and food consumption

I have a could accountability buddies ... a coworker, and my sister. My coworker is constantly trying to get me to work out, which is good, but also makes me feel guilty when I don't do it, lol. My sister is getting married in October, and as I'm a bridesmaid, we're keeping each other accountable for both nutrition and exercise, so we look a bit better in our dresses.
My husband doesn't really help me with any of this, which makes it hard. He DOES try to get his fast food fixes while at work instead of bringing it home though, which does help ... i have very little self control.
I love when the games are more active and more people post. I've felt like I'm the only one posting in some games, and then others life gets so busy I find i don't get on here much. That's been me lately, but I'm going to try to get better. I truly appreciate and need all of you!

Where does your motivation come from?
Is your drive linked to your desire to be healthier/faster/more flexible/lighter anchored by:
1. your personal desires?
2. Societies expectations?
3. Family/Partner expectations?
4. Something else

While I believe I likely have a mix of all of these, I have moved away from 3 and 4 in recent years. While I would like to think I am not working towards Societal standards, I understand that these influences have been around since before I was aware of them

For the first time I can remember, I am very comfortable with who I am as a person. I focus on a growth mindset philosophy that I came up with as a chef. My "Suck Less" mantra is a reminder that constant gradual improvement can yields fantastic results

My main goal is to feel/be healthier and avoid diet related illnesses that run in my family. As a benefit to that goal, I get to look better naked!

Mine comes from my own personal desires to be healthier and look better. I turn 50 in October and on my 49th birthday, I realized I felt like hell and felt like I was 15 years older than my age. My body hurt. I have a job where I sit for long hours, sometimes work on my days off and the job can be very stressful at times. After being told I was insulin resistant and would develop diabetes down the road if didn’t make changes, I decided that by 50, I wanted to feel 10 years younger instead of 15 years older. I was doing great, until quarantine hit and I gained all that I’d lost back (I’m definitely a stress eater). That backslide made me realize I’d never make it unless I had something to hold me accountable and that’s when I signed up for DietBet. I’m now working out, tracking my calories daily, slowly losing weight, seeing tiny changes in my body, gaining a little bit muscle, and feeling better. This is just what I needed.

  • I started this dietbet after seeing 255.2# on the scale. Consistent running, stretching and better attention to my diet has my below 240# after 4.5 weeks.

    I have no intention of stopping (or slowing down)!

That's fantastic! I'm counting calories (1400 per day) ... what I need to work on is exercise. I'm going to TRY to make myself start again on Monday. It's been almost 4 months ... NOT b looking forward to the first 2 days of "just starting to exercise muscle pain," lol.

Maybe I am strange, but the first new workout pain/soreness is something I love. Let's me know I didnt die, and where I am with regards to fintess/endurance

How much do your weights weigh? I want to get some for using at home (I don't fancy using tins of beans) and don't know where to start. I'm a beginner but also can't be arsed with super light girly ones. Or that may be the wrong attitude?!

Aaaahhhh, I'm the opposite. My nutrition has been great, but I haven't incorporating exercise yet ... I'm thinking this weekend or the start of next week, I'll add that in. I hate exercising. :unamused:

Of course! Check your weight first thing in the morning when your bloating is at its lowest, I'm sure you'll be happy ;)

Yes, absolutely! Track your nutrition, chug that water, and exercise as you normally would. Like Kate suggested, weigh in first thing in the morning. Also, you've got til Friday, so you may even lose a bit past goal!!
