Weekend was tough. I know I struggle when there is stress and easy access to snacks and food around me - I have a very hard time not grazing. Back home where my environment is more conducive to intentional eating and hoping to turn it around.

That is tough, for sure!

  • Hey everyone!

I had the chance to check out this podcast episode over the past weekend. In it, there is an interview of a Harvard professor of Biology about why losing weight is so hard. It is worth a listen if you have Spotify!

My key takeaway is that the human body does not WANT to lose weight, which is what can make it so difficult for us to do.

So give yourself yourself some grace; this is supposed to feel like a battle! We all got this!

Thanks I’m looking forward to listening! Parallels other things I’ve read - across human history, famine was way more of a threat - we are incredibly adapted to not let go of fat.

I agree, grace is important and shame is not helpful! Good luck!

Love this kind of stuff. Thanks for sharing Andrew. Already listening right now.

Hi. I’m 46 mom of three and need to get back on track. I lost 16 pounds last year. Then gained it back the end of summer and then over holidays. It needs to come off and thought this would help me. I have done Dietbet twice in past and was successfully. The accountability helps. I’m great with exercise. I’m also ok with sweets. My issue is portion control. I’d like to list 10 pounds with this bet. My next goal is to lose 20 by Memorial Day.

Thank you!

That’s me too. I eat well, but more than I need. IF was helpful in the past but I’m trying the fiber and protein path instead too, because I’m also trying to build strength.

We can do this!

That’s a good goal - I’d like to do that too.

I will turn 39 in April. I would like to be a size 12 by then (that's a high expectation [currently a 16])-- my friend's band is planning a party for me so I want to be comfortable in the spotlight.
I would then like to maintain that size---and, if I'm lucky, loose more over time. I do not want to be overweight when I turn 40.

Hello! I’m so proud of losing 60 pounds by 2019, but since 2020 on it creeped back up 40. I keep trying to start again with a next chapter in my weight loss journey but it doesn’t stick more than a few days. I’m trying dietbet (again!) to find inspiration and to keep me on track a little longer until I can build back some some new healthy habits.

Good luck all!

I used DietBet in 2018 to lose 35 lbs, quickly. I felt amazing!!
In 2020 I could not maintain any longer due to a battle with Cancer and then COVID. Then Cancer took my mother-in-law in 2022.
I'm healthy now but developed some unhealthy, emotional eating habits (dark thoughts... "Eat it, you're gonna die anyway, you should enjoy what time you have left").
My scans have been clear for 3 years and it's time to stop pitying myself and live the life I've been gifted.

Kim

I love that! It might feel even more amazing this time around, with your new perspective. We will do this.

Hello everyone!

I have played lots of Diet Bets, but have never actively posted. I am committing to posting in the effort to be more accountable and active in the group.

I missed my New Years Diet Bet by a pound, and then gained two pounds back in the three weeks that followed.

I have a goal of getting to 155 pounds by the last week of May. I am currently right around 170 pounds.

This will be the first leg of my journey, and I plan on doing three of these back to back to reach my goal.

I am a vegan who primarily uses calorie counting and calorie deficits as a method to lose weight. I have trouble with exercise due to a neck injury, but I can do low some impact exercise at least!

I look forward to joining this journey with you all!

Hi everyone! My name is Shan. I gained 40 pounds last year after quitting vaping 😅. Glad to be done with Nicotine for good. Best thing I did for my health and now I’m just working on losing some of that weight by building healthy habits. I signed up for AIDS LifeCycle. A 545 mile bike ride from SF to LA in June, Co-produced by both the SF AIDS foundation & the Los Angeles LGBT center. The services provided as a result of my fundraising efforts include counseling, HIV/STD screenings, linking youth experiencing homelessness and people living with HIV to housing. My goal is to lose a little weight before my ride so I am able to get up some of the big climbs on the ride🙈. I also need to get some gear for my ride so I think this will be a great motivator to keep me in check with my good habits.
