  • And that’s a wrap! 21 spin classes in the last 4 weeks and loved every one 💕

That is an amazing commitment! CONGRATS! I tried spin once many years ago but the seat was just not kind to my behind. I've heard that bike seats have come a long way since then and I might give it another try. Thanks for the motivation!!!

Not gonna lie. For the first week or so it was pretty uncomfortable, but you get used to it.

I will meet my round 2 goal (just barely). I am still pretty nonplussed with my lack of significant progress this round considering my 100% dedication over the last 4 weeks. The only really good thing that has come of it is that my daily spin class is now firmly part of my routine. I had to miss one morning because of a work meeting and I was so bummed. I’m a former athlete and am used to hard work, but it is such a nice change of pace to have a workout I actually look forward to and don’t dread and have force myself to go to.

That's how I feel about my morning bike rides. I get grumpy if I miss out on one.

I'm still not sure if I will meet goal (I was not close enough last time I weighed), and I feel the same way. I've been going above and beyond in adhering to my dietary goals, even making them a more intense the past week to see if I can get it to budge, but some mystery force is preventing the weight from coming off.

Good luck to us both!

Alright, even though seeing results has felt really slow - three weeks into spin classes (1-2 rest days/week) I am starting to see the scale budge and feel a difference. Wish it was a little faster, but it is what it is. I work full time and am a single mom of two young kids. There is only so much time and energy in my day to go around, so it is good enough for now

Highly recommend taking measurements (arms, waist, hips, chest, etc). Even when the scale isn’t being particularly kind, my measurements keep me encouraged.

Mollie D.

Sounds like you are doing a great job!

Okay, I’m 2 weeks into 5x week spin class. As of right now I haven’t noticed any changes (clothing-wise, etc) and my weight has totally plateaued since starting. When I have worked out consistently in the past I have always weightlifted, and seen relatively quick results. Any idea when I will start to see something, anything?

I'm in the same boat. Just keep going and try switch it up a few days a weeks and do some other cardio or weight training.

I've been running and doing intervals for about 5 weeks and I haven't really felt any changes. I feel better though because I can see that I can actually run (slow) 35 min straight. When I started I struggled after 5 min.

I just keep going and I know it will eventually come off if I eat ok.

I won't meet this goal for July 3, but I'm hopeful I'll still see everyone at the end goal

The exercise can stimulate the stress hormone cortisol which puts your body in store and repair mode, the best way to overcome it is lots of sleep or taking some rest/repair days off.

The big thing though is food, exercise can make you work up an appetite. For this reason it is important to track your calories and make sure you are in a deficit, it is also important to make sure you are getting the right amount of protein and nutrients.

Exercise can cause you to move less throughout the rest of the day that can equalize your activity to normal. Many calorie trackers allow you to select a lifestyle for calories and also log exercise. If you exercise hard 1 hour but go from active to sedentary in your lifestyle the rest of the day there may be no deficit.

Lastly exercise makes your body store more water. 1 gallon weighs 8.33lbs, and 1lb of fat has the volume of 4 sticks of butter. It maybe you are losing fat but it is the visceral fat around your organs which would not show up in measurements and that combined with more water retention due to recovery and repair is covering up your losses.

My advice would be listen to your body and stick with it. Take rest days when your body tells you and play with your calorie intake. I have done crossfit twice both times I got in the best shape of my life but felt miserable due to overtraining which led to injury and stress eating which net effected to worse health and ultimately falling off the wagon. In retrospect I should have done something more sustainable and allowed myself more rest days, I think if I had done it 2 times a week I could have maintained it, Spinning may be different but listen to your body, if your body is screaming for rest and food give it rest and healthy food.

Started spin class about a week ago, and have been going everyday, haven’t increased intake, and, of course, gained a not inconsiderable amount of weight 😒. I know it’s not unexpected and is probably just water retention from tissue damage, but, boy, is it disheartening

Keep going! I'm stuck at 185... and I've been jogging 2 miles 5 nights a week. I know it's going to break soon! Just stay consistent

Nicole B.

You are building muscle, it weighs more than fat. Keep going, you will love the results.

Decided to try something totally new and signed up for a spin class starting next Sunday. For those that have been there done that - should I rent shoes or just plan to buy my own right away??

I'd rent. You might not like spin or you might like spin but not the "culture" of the studio and decide to go to another one which uses the other kind of cleats. Try before you buy :)

Michelle R.

I’d say rent as well, you’re just starting out and trying it. You don’t want to spend too much $$ to find out it’s not for you!

got the promotion I interviewed for earlier in the week. Was a little shocked to get the offer letter so quickly, but am beyond excited to transition to my new role in 2 weeks! Also, excited that I will be able to staring working out again because of increased flexibility. A little intimidated to go back to my gym because the last time I was there (pre fertility treatments, pre medically complex pregnancy, pre covid) I was super fit. I’m 60+ lbs heavier and I am trying to tell myself that the first time that will be the worst time, but the mental hurdle is real.

Congratulations on your promotion!!

I am not a gym gal but I really enjoy dancing. I signed up for a class, I was worried about my size. No one cared and I had so much fun! Find a gym that is a good fit for you. And congrats on your new job!

So somehow I managed to reach the first goal (and then some) even though it’s only been a few weeks. I’m happy, because I’ve been trying hard, but I’m one of those people that holds weight really awkwardly and always look about 20 lbs heavier than I actually am, so I don’t see any difference yet. I have a really important interview on Tuesday and know I need to step it up beyond my typical work “uniform,” so I ordered a bunch of things from several stores and I’m really hoping that (A) I guessed the right sizes (because I won’t really have an opportunity to exchange for sizes before Tuesday) and (B) that there is something I feel moderately confident in because I haven’t felt that way in long time. I really miss those days I could open my closet and pick anything out to wear...

You will look great. Try not to stress to much because your are going to rock the interview.

Karin V.

I were just asked to give an interview too, the reporter just called me and asked me if we can do it today, for tomorrow's newspaper - and my first thoughts were: I haven't been to the hair stylist for months, In the newspaper I always look so fat and: what should I wear?
I now decided to do it. I know the Interviewer and will trust him. I will style my hair myself and find something cool to wear since I've already lost several kilos.
And: it depends on what you say and not how the photo looks like.
My theme is gender equity. What is yours?

Have a few high stress things coming up that I’m trying not to let derail me. Applied for a new position within my organization that I’m very excited about - already got asked to set up an interview in a week! My job is a major source of unhealthy stress at the moment and this move, while essentially lateral, will provide a much better work/life balance.

One of my (only) ways to de-stress right now is board games, and I play a lot on boardgamearena. If there are any other tabletop board gamers out there - please add me as a friend (same username) on BGA.

I love board games! What is boardgamearena?!

David G.

Good luck. Changing jobs (even laterally) for a better work life balance is a great move. I did that 2 years ago and I feel/am so much better!
