  • The bad news: The scale is still going up.

    The good news: I’m leaning into the things that make me feel good. I went for a run on my favorite path. I made myself some delicious fiber- and protein-filled pumpkin spice waffles for breakfast. I am loading up my grocery order with vegetables and protein. I painted my nails blue, deep purple, lavender, and some sparkly because I’m a full-time telecommuter and I can. :)

Some of you have already heard part of this, and I thank you for your support and kind words. I promise you this post turns positive.
Last month I had to run 1800 miles away to go see my father in hospice care. I had to drive there (long story) and stayed home for 2 weeks. So that's 6 cumulative days on the road (eating garbage), and a couple weeks in a different state, away from my home and my healthy routines, and surrounded by grief. In that time I gained back a ton of weight. My parents' home is LOADED with unhealthy snacks, and I was back in my home town, craving all my old favorite foods. I tried to work out, but it just didn't take. I worked out 3 times in 17 days. After my father passed and I came back to my home I was dejected with my DietBet because I was never going to make my October weigh in. And I was afraid that I was so far gone that I'd never make my November weight either.
But I did 2 things - I IMMEDIATELY got back into my workout routine, and I started counting calories in earnest. All of that salty, water retention weight shedded off, and I'm still on a razors edge with making my November weight, but I believe it's possible.
Sometimes life just steals our progress from us. But you can take it back. There will ALWAYS be these troughs to progress, but none of them are permanent.
Let life take it's course, but don't be afraid to pull on the reins and say "OK, that's enough, I need to get back to normal."

Stress and anxiety. I’m trying to retrain myself to breath and move my body when I’m feeling anxious instead of reaching for alcohol and food.


I have the issue of wanting my kids to have the yummy cookie and dessert-filled holidays I grew up with! The Ohio buckeye balls, pumpkin roll, pumpkin pie, and especially decorated sugar cookies… the issue is I have no self control around cookies, so I don’t want to keep them in the house!

  • Lunch for the next three days! Salad greens, very thinly sliced red onion, and finely chopped pepper are underneath the veg. Anyone know what kind of pepper that is? It came from a coworker's garden and is very hot. About to take the leftover to the compost bin.

    UPDATE: I believe it's a habañero. I like hot things and am looking forward to in my salads but really wish I had worn gloves when chopping it! I may have to sleep in my contacts tonight!

It’s a habanero pepper and yes they’re hot. Should always wash hands immediately after cutting them. I actually keep disposable gloves in my kitchen pantry. I specifically wear them when I’m chopping any kind of hot peppers. I hope you enjoy your salads.

TMI alert: I'm now up 5 pounds since Wed and I'm wondering if the reason I gain weight after weigh-ins is because I tend to eat a couple of treats AND get my cycle. The dates float a few days per month, but after successfully maintaining my weight within a half pound after weigh-in, I'm now up and feeling behind for the next goal. Gah!

Today is testing day at our school. Parents brought in all sorts of snacks and we have a catered lunch later. Usually, I refuse everything and bring my own lunch OR I spend the day binge eating and regretting it. Today, I decided that I was going to enjoy lunch and maybe some treats. I just chose a chocolate chunk cookie from the table. I ate two bites and decided it wasn't that good. I threw the rest away. This is a major shift for me - I wasn't throwing it away to "be good" and I didn't say "f-it" and eat it anyway. This feels different and good. I can eat or not eat a cookie😊.

P.S. I maintained my weight this week after weigh-in. Whoot whoot!

I know I have been absentee through most of our game. Suffice to say I work in healthcare and the time I have for anything beyond necessity is preciously limited. HOWEVER!

I had to share with people who would understand...

Last weekend I had to go shopping for a new pair of 'nice' jeans for a country wedding. That was sort of their dress code...whatever. Anyway, any of you ladies that might have. Maurice's...I went in and found a pair of Viggo Silver jeans (sorta cheap designer style) and they were a 10 Slim, on clearance rack, no others. I looked at them and thought: these will be too small, but they're so cute and maybe even if they're a little tight it will be ok.....

They were TOO BIG!
