I'm thankful I can find the blessings through all this. More family time, resilient children, virtual visits allowed by insurance for medical and mental health, ability to be outside at distance with walking buddy, seeing scale reduce and ability to do more without having to drive to appointments for work through zoom, Google meet, webex, etc. Angels on earth helping people in need.. and seeing that daily. So much good that has developed will change what everything looks like on the other side of all this mess. :grin:

Okay, here's one of my biggest challenges..I do really well during the week but weekends are a struggle if the kids want to eat out, my husband offers a drink after a really hard week or one of the kids makes brownies...etc .. one discretion i say.... then something else and I say I'll do extra exercise.... but too many and I gain .5lbs or more during the weekend. Then I'll spend the week losing what i gained but if I was stronger I could be ahead in the"losing battle" .... they say get the temptations out of the house.... but with 5 kids that are trim and fit and a husband that isn't ready to shape up they shouldn't have to do without some sweets because I can't say no. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings when they think of me to bring home a favorite. Any and all prayers and suggestions welcome!!

It helps me to think in moderation. I allow myself a little so I don't forever crave the sweets I love and then binge on them later. Moderation has really helped me keep my eating under control and tweak my diet when I need to.

I have a similar problem. My husband is all about the weekend and he equates this with cheat food and drinks. He is a marathon runner... so it’s fine for him. But it does a number on me. The thing that helps me remember (when I listen to my inner voice) is that when this dinner ends or this day or event... I’m going to be more happy about making better choices every time.

I'm trying to stay motivated as I didn't even come close to winning. I know why and its not all under my control with medicine changes, okay.. and some mini candy bars. Lol. I'm going to just keep at it. Be more intentional. Be more active and eat even more intentional...yes.. and stay away from the minis!. I still lost some so with that focus I'll try again and keep being healthier. Winners enjoy my share! Do something non caloric but rewarding for a job well done! It's hard to keep the scale going in the right direction. Good for you all!! Have a very blessed holiday season! .

  • Welcome everyone, so happy to have you all here with us!

    I like to do weekly challenges as part of our game, it helps to keep the game more interesting and motivating. (Optional of course)

    The First Challenge is a mini one: The Water Challenge!

    Here is the requirement if you want to participate:
    Drink at least 64 oz. of water a day, Wednesday through Friday. Of course, you should keep it up after that, but we are highlighting hydration this week!

    *Water is such a vital and important part of everyone's health, and an integral part of any diet. Not only does it help cleanse your body of toxins, but it aids in weight loss and reduces water retention. Please feel free to drink more than 64 oz. in a day, especially if you are perspiring much at all. Ideally, you should be drinking half your body weight in ounces of water each day, but that much isn't required for this challenge.

    I will ask at the end of this week, starting on Friday, if you completed the challenge. You will need to report in on that post if you did complete the challenge to be entered into our first drawing. You will have until 12:00 PM PST on Saturday to report in. I will then put all the players who completed this week's challenge into our drawing for a $10 Amazon gift card that same day!

    And one suggestion, but not part of the challenge: Please introduce yourself and share your goals! I think it helps the group get to know each other and creates a way for each player to establish some accountability. Accountability with weight loss is essential! Let us know where you are on your weight loss/fitness journey, and what your short/long term goals are! Just for fun let us know where you are from. I live in Southern Utah.

    So I was wondering, how often do you like to weigh yourself when you're actively trying to lose weight or even maintain? For me, I like to weigh-in every day, it helps me tweak what I need to along the way and helps keep me focused. But for other people that doesn't work as well.
    What helps you stay on course the best?

Do you still need to weigh in if you don't make weight? I've made weight my previous diet bets so i always wanted to. Thank you for hosting. This is a good motivator I just can't battle over meds they are working to balance after thyroidectomy. But I'll get there. Like you said progress is progress.

One of my favorite meals (and always requested when we had potlucks/events) is a roasted veggie dish. I would roast some potatoes and butternut squash along with onions on one pan (don't substitute the butternut squash it is what makes the dish). And a 2nd pan of veggies- I always use grape tomatoes, peppers, onions then add in whatever - green beans, asparagus, etc. Use parchment paper and a bit of olive oil on the veggies. Do not add salt. Once roasted take out of the oven/off the grill and immediately add minced garlic and feta cheese. The garlic and feta will sear into the veggies. The feta has enough salt that you should not add salt when cooking. It is soooo good. And if you don't add the feta, do salt the veggies when roasting.


Good luck! I personally don’t care for meat. I’ve just always been that way. I often eat around the meat on my plate. I need to cut out starches myself. Let us know how you do!
