Ok, I could use some advice please! I’ve never worked out much, if I ever did anything it would be to walk here and there but nothing much. I joined the gym last week wanting to start lifting weights to help tone and keep losing. Ive really upped my working out this week, as I’ve gone to the gym every morning but it’s only been cardio. I’ll walk/jog/elliptical for about 45 min to an hour. I feel good physically but mentally not so much. The scale this week has only gone up- by about 4 lbs. In the past I’ve noticed this same trend when I exercise more- so I would cut back on exercise and then I would start losing again. Is my body in shock? Am I gaining muscle? What gives?! It’s so frustrating to put in the work and not see the end result with a lower number. Thanks for any input you can give.

I’d say find a program to help you. I use the tone and sculpt app and it gives advice on what to do at the gym for beginner intermediate or advanced or home workouts. But it’s helpful to have a plan whether form a personal trainer or a fitness app or something so you’re not over doing it or not being consistent enough. I was over doing it with workouts that would turn into marathons everyday until I was too tired to continue and then I’d stop for weeks and try again. So now I just do 3-4 days a week, 30 mins a day.

Also exercise doesn’t exactly equate to weightloss, have you increased your intake cuz you’re hungrier from a lot of exercising? Your body could be stressed which can cause water retention. I’m in no way a professional in this field so it’s hard to say. But it’s best to talk to someone with credentials if you have concerns or not where you want to be. Good luck to you :heart:

Cristen- I met with the trainer today and you’re correct. I’m overdoing it and not eating enough. We came up with a plan to workout/exercise 4 days a week and take it “easier” on the other days. I feel much better after my session with her and hoping this helps!:)

  • Got my strength training done today and did a 15 min walk at home video plus yoga yesterday. Now I just need to keep the momentum up!

Advice needed. How do you balance socializing while still trying to stay focused on this DietBet? I went to a party last night where a friend was cooking and teaching us new recipes. The food was great and I had a couple glass of wine. At about 9:30, I realized that I was full, but there were still more dishes to be made. I decided to bow out then because I knew I'd end up continuing to eat and drink. The hostess sent me a message this morning feeling bad that I didn't eat much (not true at all!) since I left early. Do to tell people that you are trying to lose weight before these types of situations? Do you have advice on how to better navigate these social situations?

I absolutely tell people right away in any of these situations that I'm on diet and busting my fat butt trying to hit my goal weight. I've never found anyone to but be supportive and understanding. I also tell them how much I'd LOOOOOVE to eat all the stuff they made lol which it true!! But that I can't. They totally understand . I'd imagine if I kept my mouth shut and never peeped a word about a diet declining everything they made would make me look rude, picky, and snobby lol . Many people their act of cooking for others they put alot of their heart n soul into their cooking and it's like this act of love for them to share it with those they love etc. So to them it's very hurtful to say no to everything. It's like rejection of their love n gift. I know it sounds silly, but that's their mindset lol I have family members like that. U gotta walk on egg shells denying their scrumptious foods haha but if say I'm on a diet :'( trying hard, and can't then they know I'm not rejecting their food love lol and then they kinda take up the mantle of suffering with me and imagine how hard it is to say no to these delicious foods. Now they are nothing but gracious and definitely not offended:smiley:


I tell people when they make a comment that I'm working on my health. I'm very obviously obese so people don't really comment to make me feel bad. But if they were to say "live a little" or something to that extent, I usually comment something to the effect that I've been "living a little" for years and it's gotten me more unhealthy. If people can't recognize that you are working on yourself and want to be negative, it's time to look for a group of friends that will help you better yourself. I've definitely had to change my group of friends because the one group was so focused on food (and unhealthy food at that) and negative energy that I had to bow out. Not saying your friends are like this at all, but it's time to focus on yourself and try to avoid overthinking what people may think or say about you. Easier said than done, I know, because I still catch myself caring what other people think about my health journey.

Has anyone ever been disqualified for loosing too much weight? I was reading through the rules ( ugh I hate when I can’t sleep) and they say there’s a percentage that you can’t go over but how to you calculate that?

I went and looked at my last 6 month game and I lost just over 15% and I thought that was good…. 25% seems crazy. Would love that.

But the ONLY required weigh-ins are initial, 5th & 6th round so if someone happened to exceed the round weigh-in they wouldn't have to submit except for 5th and they couldn't have lost more than 30%. If someone lost 30% that would be their prize! That would bring me to my high school weight. LOL

  • My husband and I just got back from a week in Jamaica with friends. My goal was to be under 200 before the trip and I MADE IT in my first 6month DB. I had lost 63 pounds and I was so excited. Of course, diet went out the window and we ate and drank for an entire week. I get home and step on the scale and WHOAAAAA… up almost 20 lbs. so I started my 2nd 6 month diet bet hoping to be under 175 by Christmas. The pictures below are from our first trip to Jamaica in 2017 and this past week. I love to see how far I have came, and that wasn’t even me at my heaviest. Back to it and time to crush another goal!

I’ve been to Jamaica as well, years ago though. The thunder storms were awesome and a bit frightening! You look great and the vacation weight will come off quick if you stay consistent. You’ve done it before so you know what to do! You totally got this!
