Self sabotage last night because I realized I will be gaining weight during my menstrual cycle when we actually have to end the dietbet and put our last numbers in. It's so close that with the extra 2-3lb gain I might loose the bet and so I ate a ton last night. But I'm back to trying to loose more so I still will win but now it's all a mental game. How can I loose less during my cycle and maybe even less bloat?? Any tips would be appreciated.

I go very low carb, it’s the only thing that actually helps. If I stay under 30 grams of net carbs for a few days I loose a lot of water weight

Katie C.

Me too!! And I had the same thought yesterday! I've upped my water and am trying to stay active. I've found that the cleaner I eat the less period symptoms I get too so that's my motivation!

  • We use a lot of dried split peas and lentils and while I was picking those up, I saw a dried bean mix with 16 types of legumes, it said “16 bean soup” and I thought wouldn’t it be fun to make a 16 bean chili, or 16 beans and rice, or 16 bean soup. The packages always say to rinse your legumes and inspect them for rocks. I’ve done this hundreds of times and never found anything… until now! I was eating my 17 bean Chili (I added a tofu crumble for texture (OK it was so I could up the bean count)) and all of a sudden, I felt something “rock” hard between my teeth. You guessed it, it was a rock, but this rock would be impossible for a rookie 17 bean eater like me to pick out of the bag!
It’s pretty easy to pick out of a line up though… or is it? Lets play a game look at the photo of all the beans and the rock today. Guess which one is the rock, if you want to play on expert mode you can try to identify a few extra (technically they are not all beans, some are lentils, and peas).

I thought it was ten too! Do you have any cookbook suggestions? I've been working on adding more plant based recipes but just can't seem to find a cookbook I like.

Vegan Dad

Shantel, unfortunately no. Most of our recipes are a from various sources online.

  • Welcome to a new week!

This is our last full week of this Round - a little longer than a week and a half before weigh-in... You can reach those goals!

Walt said it well, "The difference in winning and losing is most often not quitting."

Now is the time to work hard to reach our Round 1 goal. However, if you are shy of that goal this time around, you are still in the game and can get it next time!

Don't quit! You're going to get there!

    Let's share!
    1. How many pounds do you have left to lose by weigh-in?
    2. What are you doing to keep moving in the right direction and not quit?

I’ve lost more than what I need to for this round, but have plateaued over the past 1.5 weeks, so to break through that, I’m going to up my water, and I’ve signed up for a trial week of boot camp-style workouts next week. I’m interested in seeing whether they give me a better workout than the peloton strength and core workouts I’ve been doing!

  • One of my daughters is turning 5 today. Since I started diet bet in January, I have already celebrated 3 birthdays including my own. It works like this, I am careful-ish about my food choices, and I always choose to partake in (a small-sih slice) of cake because it makes me feel more included in the celebration. None of those days derailed my progress or set me back by any noticeable amount. This 4th birthday will be no different. My nutrition has been looking good since I started tracking it about a week ago. From my experience a week of on-plan days cancels out an off-plan day. Below is a screenshot from Chronometer showing the daily averages of my macros and 8 highlighted targets (I hand selected). Posting for accountability. Anyway, looking at my numbers Omega-3 has to come up or Omega 6 has to go down, going into a day with snacks like hippeas and cake isn’t going to help that, just going to make a mental note of that and let the day begin!

Especially bulimia and anorexia. Men too. Many issues result in that are learned from their parents sadly. And them watching their parents struggle with weight trickles down to our kids and how they view their relationship with their bodies and food relationship. EAT THE FREAKING CAKE:joy: HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOL it's all about balance balance balance

Vegan Dad

Well said Dani, I'm sure I've made mistakes when it comes to my kids and food. BUT NOT TODAY! :)

Daycare called and… well, making weight shouldn’t be an issue. Our kids were exposed to norovirus 😬😬😬

Aww. I'm sorry. I hope all goes well.

I'm sorry to hear. Good luck with the kiddos!!! Mine has had a double ear infection. Hard to try and put your health first when your child feels like poo.

  • Do you agree with this weight loss tip?

Don’t exercise when you start a diet.

    The idea is twofold:

    1. Cutting calories can cause fatigue and you may be too tired to workout. Which can also lead to giving up altogether.

    2. At the beginning of your weight loss plan, you should focus on your diet because it matters more. Putting all your energy into healthy eating, you set yourself up for quicker results and staying motivated longer.

    What do you think?

I can definitely see a point here. Focusing your energy on healthy eating while doing a smaller increase in your general activity rather than hard-core workouts does seem like a great way to start.

I agree

Megan T.

I did the opposite. I started a stable exercise routine that I enjoyed and then started focusing on what I was eating afterwards. But one of my main goals is to get my body into shape and not just general weight loss.

Haha me too . Too funny:joy::muscle:

If it works for you, stick to it! You can maybe mix it up here and there for different nutrients but overall if you think it's delicious and it's helping you lose weight then it's all good!!

Katie, my kids are big cereal eaters and we go through 4-5 cartons of plant milk a week. I regularly buy Soy and Almond, This week I picked up some chocolate ripple pea and some oatly too. Anyway it's hard to pick a favorite, I think I just go with what I am feeling, but I rarely feel soy milk if I'm making a cheese sauce, mashed potatoes, or any recipes like that I mostly reach for unsweetened Almond. Almost always soy in my smoothies.

Vegan Dad

Ana, so happy you asked!

I don't use the zucchini, I add salt, and these are regular lasagna sheets in the photo, I have used the lentil sheets and they are great, if that's the nutrition profile your looking for.

I am taking a week long trip in October (the 2nd week) and my DietBet goal weight by that time is at least 281. I am hoping to be even further along at that point as I am going to be going to 4 separate theme parks and my plus-size crew knows that not all rides are super accommodating! At my current weight I fit in *most* things but not comfortably. I'm hoping by that point to be at least 30 pounds down to help with comfortability!

I feel you. I am hoping to hit an amusement park in October as well and even though I’m pretty sure I’ll be fine, I still have some anxiety after my last trip when I very nearly got kicked off 3 of the rides when the safety bars wouldn’t click closed.

Amusement park rides are definitely something on my bucket list for when I lose more inches! I want to be able to fit on rides with my daughter and not be the one sidelined holding all the stuff while my husband has all the fun.

You can do it!!!!!
