Thanks for the referral, Calah!

Okay I went ahead and tried the app and I'll be honest - I'm going to stay with pic collage because the see what you eat app wants to remind me that it's time to eat and I don't need anymore reminders on my phone lol.

So, I've lost between 22-25 pounds (depending on the scale) since the beginning of the year. I have mentioned to people I'm working on getting in better shape but I haven't really talked a lot about it. Don't get me wrong I'm super proud of myself... but not one person has noticed the weight loss! Just makes me think how big I must have been to lose 20+ and no one notices. Anyway, I wanted to share thoughts somewhere. Keep at it gang!

In my experience most work places consider it highly unprofessional to comment on people’s looks, even avoiding commenting on clothes. Also I’ll never forget three decades ago someone at work saying the opposite, that is, “you’re really putting on weight.” I was devastated. Paradoxically it can be a nice reinforcement to have our efforts noticed. That’s what this community is for!!! You’re doing great!

I'm down a 100+ in a year. Have never heard from my immediate colleagues in the office. And that's fine, of course. The people in other departments I meet and former colleagues have said something right away. Sometimes it's just awkward for people to know what to say, I think. I sometimes mention to the folks who say something that I'm not sick, I just lost weight. Lol.

  • Your winnings in this game may be based on the scale, but your mindset doesn’t have to be!

The best way to get that scale to move is to focus on healthy behaviors and not the scale. Instead of looking for a number, focus on setting your goals based on good food choices or activity goals.

Set goals like “eating 1 cup of veggies at dinner” “walk 20 minutes each day” or “keep a daily food/exercise log.” During times when the scale doesn’t want to budge these successes can help keep you going on this lifelong journey.

What are some goals you’ve set for this game?

My non scale goals include looser clothes. Currently I'm a size XXL and I'm dreaming to become a size medium!! When I'm half way to my weight goal, I'm chopping my hair off....10 inches baby. Let's goooo!

Lost this round…. I honestly don’t know what to do to get the scale to move!!!! I am frustrated I’m tracking everything I eat, I weigh it out and use measuring cups/spoons so I know it’s accurate. I am working out A LOT. The scale just won’t move I am only 46% to round three goal so I have to majorly kick it into gear but I don’t know what gear because I feel like I am giving it my all!

I will never forget standing on the scale and bursting into tears 6 weeks into the start of this DietBet journey in 2019. I thought I was doing everything right. But then I tried low carb - but with lots of non-starchy veggies (Dr Becky Fitness on YouTube really helped) and educating myself about autophagy, intermittent fasting, working out while burning fat and not glycogen and everything changed. The book mentioned above sounds interesting because it sounds like it helps people find their unique combination of metabolic needs. Good luck and don’t give up! Everyone in this community is cheering you on!!!

Eat more! Seems wrong, but you might be shocking your body too much. How are you feeling? Any non-scale victories worth celebrating?

I’m a bit discouraged and honestly just needing some encouragement/advice. I’ve started adding weights instead of just doing cardio and I’ve gained 3 lbs since starting this competition. I know they say muscle ways more than fat, but I’m ready to see the scale go the other direction. ☹️

That's why I don't start weights during a bet. I've heard from other players the gains are short and then you start really losing weight as your muscle burns the fat for you. But I'm not emotionally strong enough to get through the muscle gain period, always wondering if I'm doing something wrong. If you stick with it, make sure your calories aren't too low! :)

Muscle and fat weighs the same! A pound is a pound!

What is run bet?

Anta Anna Z.

  • JW - It’s similar to dietbet; you sign up for a game, pay into the pot, and the winners spilt the pot at the end. Each game has a different distance and requirements of minumum pace, but usually the games are 4-6 weeks long, and you have to have minimum of 4 runs in a week.

Got on my outdoor bike yesterday since it was nice out. Went with my son for 40 I realize how far I've come over the last year. I wasn't out of breathe or anything. I felt stronger because I am stronger. We are strong and tough, we all got this!

Feels good to notice those things! Great work!

Love this. I used to walk for an hour and then wince going up/down steps afterwards. No pain and no problem now that I am down 100 lbs.

Anybody feels the same?

I lost weight but I don‘t think that I look any better than before and I feel miserable from trying to loose weight that fast. I think a rate of only 1kg weightloss per month would have been better.

It's hard to see progress yourself. I had to have other people tell me they could see the loss before it sunk in. (And that didn't happen for a few months.) Also, I was losing weight at first at too LOW of a rate to feel good about the progress I was making. It was driving me crazy to only drop a pound in a week or two. I cranked it up to two pounds a week and felt a lot better about it. I know that's fast for a lot of people, but I was starting from a pretty high number. The result has been great for me.

Catherine L.

You should get waist beads, you out then around your waist and as you lose they get looser. Even if you don't see the overall progress just that little win of removing a bead or two every couple weeks might juat be enough to keep you motivating and help you not be so hard on yourself. Take care!

  • First straight run of 3 miles since October! I actually surprised myself I haven’t been consistently exercising until this week when I started 75 hard. I told myself I wanted to be back to 6 miles by the time it was over and it definitely seems achievable 💕 was it slow YES but I got it done!

Way to go on this. I’ve been working on running more and ended up pacing around the same for my two miles today. Kudos to you on getting the extra one in. My goal is to be able to run a 5k continuously.

Calah C.

You can totally get there! :-) i love running it’s rewarding!
