I’d been doing really well since doing my first Ilana bet in the summer, but have had a bad weight gain week. Between kids being sick and me being under the weather, I’ve just been craving all the worst things and eating way too much. What are everyone’s best tips for getting back on track?

I have been out of control for over a year now. Eating my feelings has been my only “real” activity, while I’ve wallowed in self pity. I have a disabled husband, an 83 year old mother, three daughters and seven grandkids that need and / or want me here. It’s time for me to suck it up! I have about 40 pounds of fat to lose so it’s a going to be long road.

    “Better in the Waste Than on Your Waist”

    Don’t suck up your kids’ last bites of sandwich or leftover pieces of scram- bled egg because they were intuitive enough to leave them there. First Friday, with Shabbat dinner in it, that was still a weightloss day! I had some challah and some rice and even some chocolate cake for my son’s birthday in the morning, and STILL lost weight. I can’t quite believe it. Need to be really determined this weekend as it’s my son’s party and Rosh Hashana before weigh in and I’m not quite there (close though). If I can keep up the water and stay on track, I can make it.

Went to an event yesterday with loads of food and treats and still had a weight loss day! Things that helped:
1. Water (obviously). Including Ilana’s tricks of having a glass of water or herbal tea in hand at all times
2. I made my lunch a huge veggies affair before the afternoon tea
3. Had Ilana’s ‘DINTEO’ in my head - do I need this eating opportunity? Helped her skip all the sandwiches at the start because they’re nothing special and I wasn’t hungry so would just have been eating because they were there. Then I could actually enjoy the dessert as a treat!
4 dinner and done!
Weight loss day despite dessert!!

Postpartum and breastfeeding moms in the group: talk to me about your milk supply! Are any of you having issues? I’ve been losing weight and my supply had seemed steady, but today I needed to supplement with formula. There’s so many factors, it’s hard to know what could be causing a dip in supply (being back at work, baby starting solids, stress etc)! I did make/eat some lactation cookies today though. We’ll see what it does on the scale tomorrow!

Are you eating enough? I’m trying to not eat too little because my lactation consultant said losing 1-2lb a week shouldn’t effect milk supply. Plus I get sooo hungry, especially in the morning. I did find my supply dipped a bit when she started on solids and also when I got my period back. Hope you have a better day tomorrow!

Water water water? I always found the biggest impact was how much I drank. Could you also try expressing a bit more frequently / fully when at work? My lactation consultant said that the biggest signal to the body to make more milk was empty breasts, so if baby is drinking less because they’re having solids, try expressing after feeds to fully empty? Also- formula is great food for babies so well done for doing what baby needed!
