Buttercup, you can volunteer to help serve. You will be on your feet (a little bit of exercise), busy (less time to eat), and still get to enjoy the social side of the event. When it is your turn to eat, fill your bowl with strawberries or another favorite fruit that you brought, top it with a little bit of ice cream for the flavor, and maybe indulge in a few sprinkles. That should minimize the damage. And plan ahead, eat healthier throughout the day that preceeds the event.
