I tend to believe the watch. It’s newer and knows your heart rate and probably also knows other personal data about you (if you’ve put any of it in the Health app) so it can give better or more accurate measurements. I have worn an external heart rate monitor too and found that it matches pretty closely with my Apple Watch.

Neither will be accurate- they’re both set at an algorithm that the developer thinks someone doing that exercise will burn. They also tend to bump it up for the feel good factor. Sorry to be the negative one.
