About the 'all or nothing issue': For my workouts, I made it a rule that I have to do 15 minutes of it, no matter what. If I really want to quit at that point, I can, but then I usually finish. Even if I quit early, I feel much better about doing SOMETHING.
Tracking my workouts and mileage also helps to avoid dropping the ball. It makes me look at the big picture and keeps me moving, because I don't want to mess up my weekly/monthly/yearly numbers. Even if I am not at my best, I still add to the grand total, also something to consider.
