As my family prepares to make our way home after evacuating the flooding situation brought on by Hurricane Harvey, I'm mindful of the events that have taken place in this past week. Just a little over 4 days before we left our house for higher ground (before the flooding began) at a friend's house, I had started a new meal plan. I have become increasingly aware over the last several months that my persistent health problems are caused by my poor diet and lack of frequent exercise. I'm as body positive as they come, but even I know when I need to start taking better care of myself.

This past week, while we've been safe and away from our neighborhood's floods, I've gone right back to the way I was eating. Not being mindful of portion sizes, nutritional values of foods I'm eating, and I've been snacking. Oh goodness, I've been snacking. These are all my decisions, certainly. But with the stress and anxiety attacks and general worry over the state our home is in, I don't blame myself and I certainly hope no one else would.

I started a dietbet game in an effort to help motivate me. I chose a lower than average "bet" amount because it just seemed right. Is my health worth the larger bet amounts? You bet. Am I more concerned over paying for potential damages to my home? Absolutely. I hope if you choose to do so, you'll join me. I'll need all the accountability I can get during this time and I know we're all stronger together.
