We have all heard the word being tossed around. "Paleo" "caveman diet" "low in carbs and refined sugars, high in healthy fats" and yes, I'm sure we have all heard the amazing success stories. But is it all that it is cracked up to be?
For 21 days straight I have been eating nothing but fairly strict paleo diet. Or, as I like to call it, lifestyle. When I get to my goal weight, I won't change a thing about how I am eating. Here's why:
1. I feel AMAZING. I can't even begin to tell you how great I feel right now. I get up at 5:30am on the dot everyday with my toddler and usually by about midday I am a tired grumpy mess. Not anymore. I am so much happier and I feel like I can do anything!
2. I haven't really been getting into exercise as I have been very pushed for time as well as saving for a gym membership. Regardless, my fat is still going down (weight and body measurements) and I feel on top of the world.
3. I had a piece of toast with ham on it for breakfast yesterday (the kind of thing I was eating my whole life before Paleo) and my God. I felt unbelievably horrid ALL DAY. I was tired, grumpy and my stomach felt abysmal. I think I needed it though. To remind myself why I've been taking the extra care and time to give myself a great diet.
4. Did I mention that the food is incredible!! I can’t get over how yummy every single recipe I have made is. The secret is in the herbs and spices If you are doing paleo, I seriously suggest getting Pete Evans recipe books, you will drool at every page!
Whenever I would start a ‘diet’ all I would look forward to was the reward when I got to my goal weight. Pizzas, pastries, cakes, chips. You name it, I thought that when I was at my ideal weight I would be able to eat all that crap and not become who I was again. How wrong could I be! Once you realise that food is nourishment for your body then you will be on the right track. Your body will thank you.
Don’t give up. When you get into a routine you will be able to conquer anything!
However you are getting healthy, remember, it’s not a diet or a 6 week one off boot camp, it’s a lifestyle change.
Are you making that change?
