So last night my husband and I went to our friends house for our weekly dinner and a show (we're watching Wolf Hall), and I kind of overindulged.  The pulled pork would have been fine, and the asparagus as well.  But I went ahead and put the pork on a potato bread bun, grilled slightly with butter and garlic, and had not one, but two helpings of potato salad.  One glass of wine with dinner and another while watching the program.  To top it off, we had vanilla ice cream, strawberries, and whipped cream.  I didn't say 'NO' to any of it (although I only had about a Tablespoon of whipped cream).  It occurs to me this morning that not hurting my friend's feelings is a bad excuse for over indulging.  First of all, my health is important, and second of all, it's an excuse that doesn't hold up.  I just wanted to eat what everyone else was eating, and used that nice-sounding reason to allow myself to do it.

I just love self-examination, don't you?

So lunch and dinner today will be interesting.  All-day meeting with a catered lunch.  I've already made a pact with a co-worker to keep me accountable.  Dinner is to celebrate my upcoming retirement.  This may be more difficult.  Say a prayer for me!
