Day 29

I finished my Kickstarter challenge last night and did my official weigh-in this morning. I was pleased to have made my 4% weight loss goal so that I could be among the "winners." I have to say, however, that everyone who lost weight, even if they didn't make that 4% goal, has won. It's been great to see the total number of pounds lost accumulate for my two DB game groups. We are on our way.

I took several days off from restricted eating during the month because I wanted to socialize with my friends who had parties or birthdays. Sometimes eating out included drinks. Sometimes, dessert. My goal, though, didn't change. I wanted to be mindful to not overindulge, while still allowing myself to feel like someone who was at a celebration.

I had to rely on my better angels to get me back on track since sometimes socializing is a gateway to crazy consumption. One weekend of overindulging and getting off a diet has sometimes led to weeks of daily desserts. Knowing that I had a weigh-in today kept me from overdoing it on my diet breaks and kept me from sustaining the break for too long.

I feel like maintainence is life's biggest challenge for those of us who are prone to overeating. I don't want to feel deprived of fun and good food, but I also want to eat moderately and consume the right number of calories for my metabolism. My current plan is just to stay the course for my weight loss, but over the next few months I will be working on strategies for how to maintain success once I reach my goal.
