A fellow Transformer wrote a brief comment about struggling with herself...that she is her own worst enemy. Isn't this always the case? We're all fighting with our selves one choice at a time. How we choose to confront these inner demons can play a huge part in our continuing struggle or our long-term success!
When our inner-self is hungry for fulfillment, we often mistake those 'hunger' signals for actually being physically hungry, and so we stuff ourselves with all the 'feel-good' foods we love, which provide temporary relief from our soul-hunger, but which are not the best for our bodies...'carb/sugar hangover', anyone?!
For those who find comfort and progress in identifying, healing, and releasing those issues which cause our soul cravings, journaling can be a powerful tool.
When you find yourself in battle with yourself, stop for a moment and consider what you have been thinking about recently? What emotions are those thoughts bringing to forefront? Are there any specific triggers which you can identify?
Take a bit of time to journal when you are feeling tempted by food...what is the 'it' which you are using food to soothe? Childhood trauma? Relationship troubles? Work stress? Journaling about those issues can bring them into sharper focus so you can identify the situations that lead you to slip up.
Can you redirect those feelings that you need nourishment into something beneficial? Can you feed your soul instead of stuffing your body? A walk in nature...painting or other art...a talk with a good friend...a bubble bath with your favorite book...these are all 'extreme-self-care' options which will feed your soul, thereby being of benefit to your body as well.
Ultimately, regardless of our choice, we are all doing the best we can, with what we've got, in any given moment. Some of those choices further our goals of health, physical wellness, and fitness. Others do not. It doesn't make one choice good and another choice bad...they are all just choices we made in an attempt to feel good...and sometimes that 'chocolate cake choice' feels sooooooo good!! So when we're in the midst of our 'chocolate cake choices' we can also choose to fully embrace the moment, the decadence, the richness, so as to be fully in-joy as we indulge.
And tomorrow we will make 'running shoe choices', or 'turkey & cheese roll-up choices', or 'salad for lunch choices', or 'taking the stairs choices', or 'vege smoothie choices'...and hopefully, we will be able to see and embrace the decadence and richness available to us in those choices as well.
So go out there, make your choices...consciously. Then fully enjoy, in-joy, them all!!!
