so i grew up with supper being on the table by like 5:30. now that i'm married my husband likes to do dinner at like 8 at night and i thought it was the strangest thing...i guess to me it always seemed too late. it does make sense though to hear someone else say it. when i eat dinner later i don't feel the urge to snack before bed.

It's a great way to stave off hunger in the evening.

That's a good point. We were the same. 5:30 dinner in my big family helped keep the routine/schedule and keep my mom sane. :) But then she (and us teenagers or young adults) would always have a treat before bed - a bowl of ice cream, or some other snack. Maybe that's where I got my late night munchies habit. Staying up to watch a movie or to do homework, or whatever it was.. by 8/9/10, I was hungry again, so I would eat more. Now I'm trying to eat dinner more like 7/8, and if I start to get the munchies (although I'm learning to recognize that I'm not actually "hungry" at that point), I'll go ahead and chew minty gum or brush my teeth, so I don't feel like eating actual food. It helps. Thanks Lacey for the advice.
