Bert encouraged me to join, and I figured the best thing to do as an intern for the show is to get into the community! So let's review:

  • I have been overweight since middle school. For a short period in high school, I lost some weight, but I put it back on.
  • My family has a long history of both diabetes and heart disease. My mother was diagnosed with type II diabetes four years ago, but did not give up. Instead, she completely changed her life, and now she is one of the healthiest people I know. She has always pushed me to be better, to go to my full potential, and I'm finally going to listen to her.
  • About two and a half years ago, I started walking and jogging for exercise, but sprained my Achilles tendon during my first 5k. After that, I essentially quit exercising-- but now, I'm back.

As of December I've been trying to go to the gym at least three times a week. I've now moved up from the recumbent bike to the treadmill, and I'm starting to run a little at a time every day. I'm ready to rock and roll, and take this weight off. Combined with cutting back on the pasta and bringing in more veggies, in addition to switching to fruit smoothies for breakfast most days, I'm ready tp give this my first sincere try in years. I think I can do this, and I am going to try my damnedest to see it through.
