Kickstarted my diet with an interesting trip to the gym today.

I woke up bright and early this morning, had a marinated lime chicken breast for breakfast (Low Carbs) and then promplty prepped for the gym.

In the past I would take a caffine pill 30 mins before exercise for an extra boost to my workout. The science is sound: Here and Here but what they don't tell you is that it can ruin the start of your workout if have an empy stomach!

One pill is roughly two cups of coffee, and as a non-coffee drinker I imagine it has a greater affect on my system. That proved true as I started jittering while trying to clock time on the crosss trainer... couple that with a horrible sickly feeling and I can tell you that it didn't add up to a great experience.

Thankfully I felt a lot better after 45 mins and was able to complete 77 mins on the cross trainer (700cals) and I was re-aquanted with my long lost friends: the gyms weight machines.

As for the diet, I'm well under 40 carbs today but I'll top that up with vegtables for dinner tonight.

I'll be losing a lot of fluid with the diet change, possibly as much as 5lbs of water in the next 3 days, so I'll have to keep hydrated.

Anyway, there's a wee bit of advice for anyone thinking about taking caffine to supplement a workout: remember to eat before you take it!
