So like everyone, I started January with mega goals and aspirations. This year was going to be my year. I was going to be thin, beautiful, glamourous. People were going to look at me and think "Wow". I was going to be an inspiration to everyone who saw me. Well that's not quite on track.
When you think about it, January is such a stupid month to try to start anything anew. Yes it's a new year and so should be a new start, but think it over! You're broke from Christmas, you have all the extra bits of weight from Christmas, probably a bit hungover from New Years Eve (it's the 3rd day in February and I'm still a bit hungover! ;) ) And, typically, I've tried to do everything at once, and of course gotten overwhelmed. I know this all sounds like excuses and to some degree it is, but I also think that this is just typical behaviour for most people in January.
So whilst I'm annoyed that I have only lost 1lb and 0.75inches since January 1st, I'm not suprised. Although I have managed to do all the exercise and training for my marathon that I promised myself I would do, I have been in hibernation mode when it comes to eating-i.e eat as much as I can so I can live off my fat through the winter!
February is going to be different though. I'm going to stick to my Sparkpeople calorie range as religiously as possible and do small steps at a time. I've decided that I need to focus on 4 areas:
Healthy Lifestyle
Fitness
Wellbeing
My Vainity (but we'll call it beauty so it sounds nice heh)
So on Friday 30th, I set myself one mini task for each habit for each day. When I have achieved a 7 day streak for each habit-unbroken-I will take on a new habit and hopefully build to where I want to be. I'll still try to do the best that I can, but if I take the pressure off and focus on four tasks a day, I hope that I can really build up to a manageable lifestyle.
So the habits are:
Health-Stay within 100kcal of Sparkpeople Kcal limit-not too far over or under.
Fitness-to do at least 30 secs of each of Casseys Stretches for the splits (I'm awful at stretching after runs, so this gives me a goal-the splits-to MAKE me do it)
Wellness-Blog or Journal ANYWHERE, in my notebook, on Sparkpeople or here.
Beauty-Pluck my eyebrows everyday so I don't end up looking like a member of Oasis (It's going to be very telling who gets that reference.)
I've only broken the healthy habit so far, and am on a streak of 4 days for the other 3 (2 for the Calorie one) so that's encouraging. I'll probably reward myself at stages along the way, to keep me motivated.
Anyway that's enough for today. I'll probably update this weekend. x
