Tomorrow is the official weigh-in for my first DietBet challenge. I've been pretty consistent which is surprising for me. I gave up bread, pasta, rice and bananas and got a full month without feeling hungry and no cravings. I've discovered that spaghetti squash makes a good spaghetti alternative and worked well when I fixed pasta for a table of 10. No one knew that mine was different.

My scale has been my friend most of the month. One or two days we had a slight disagreement but we got over it!

My daughter invited me to join her in this first challenge. She is nearly 400 miles away so I had to rely on me to keep me from nibbling. All the while I could hear her voice in my head saying "you can do this". I'm not sure if she hears my voice in her head or not, she's been very close about her progress.

It's been an interesting challenge for me. I've dieted most of my life -- mostly unsuccessfully. A few good starts and then failure. Every diet I've been on has focused on food. I had to plan food, fix food, deny myself food, shop for food, etc. Such a concept, invest in myself! Bet on me to win!

With one month down I am indeed a winner. I've passed my goal. I can feel the difference even if my clothes are still the same size and I don't see dramatic change.

By the way, I've had a knee replaced and am getting ready to have the other one done also so running, long walks, knee bends, floor exercise -- totally out of the question. I've been swimming, taken short walks and used some cute turquoise hand weights. At nearly 70 years old I can honestly say, this has been a good month.

Good luck everyone - you certainly can do it!
