Congratulations on starting a new lifestyle! I used running as a way to help myself lose weight. It also helped me so much with my self acceptance and respect. Like you I know that I will not be a super thin girl since it is really not in my genes or physical construction, but little by little I have become healthier and stronger. You will absolutely looooove the experience of your first marathon, for my it was a life changing experience, now I'm addicted to running :), best of luck!
