Omg thank you for this article...I very rarely drink diet soda but the other day someone bought me a large one and I couldn't believe how hungry I felt all that day and night! I didn't make the connection until that night that it must have been the diet soda because I always eat the same thing for lunch and never get cravings like that! That must be it!!

Truth! Thanks for laying it out brother.

Eliminating sweeteners (natural and chemical) from my beverages was the single most important thing that I have done to control my appetite. Try drinking your coffee black. Believe me, I never thought that I could do it, but you can. It's worth it to not have to deal with the cravings. It will take some getting used to, but think of all of the other changes that you've made so far.

I've never been able to use sweetners, they taste so strongly chemical and nasty. And when I was pregnant the nurse told me I shouldn't have them while pregnant because they could hurt the baby. That was enough for me. I don't have a sweet tooth, so I figure the amount of sugar I have - half a teaspoon of real sugar in tea twice a day, and some dark chocolate - is fine.

Good for you on being able to get the exercise down. I have the opposite problem. My nutrition is on point, but I can't seem to manage the fitness part. With my husband and family, I am definitely more active than I used to be, but I resist truly working out/sweating. I wish that I had something inside of me that would "click". How did you find the dedication to work out? I don't know if it would help you, but I'll tell you what one thing that helped my dieting... I quit drinking sugary (or sugar substitute) drinks. It was one of the HARDEST things that I've ever done, but I did it. Believe me when I tell you, if I can quit drinking soda, anyone can. Quitting soda has drastically affected my appetite and mood... for the better!Hope that helps. Keep up the good work!

At least you know it isn't really fat. One night filled with goodies will mostly just cause water weight gain and such. After a few healthy days I bet you will be right back where you were. Occasional treat nights are good for morale in the long run :-)

Well said!

Shannon J.

A very good reminder-thank you! Last year I had a bad relationship with my scale--to the point that I made my husband hide it, so I couldn't use it. After a month, I tried again, but no, I needed a longer break from it. Now the scale is back out, and is used in a healthy manner and it and I are on better terms ;) I remind myself its just one tool in my weight loss journey and there are so many others I can turn to to judge my progress as well. Good luck to both you and your wife! :)
