February is the longest month of the year. It sounds oxymoronic, but where I live, February is soul-sucking bitter cold and feels like it will never end.
Since escaping to the Bahamas is out of the question, I've been planning how to sidestep a state of semi-hibernation on my sofa.
I ordered a fitbit a week ago and it is finally being shipped. I have a Garmin for running (love it!) but I want to track how active I am in the course of a normal day. I feel like I'm fairly active, but data don't lie.
Last night, I signed up for 5 local races over the next 4 months. Three of them are half marathons and two are 10km runs. Two of the races are in February; I'm not really looking forward to those, but I do love getting shiny new medals.
I saw the Dr earlier this week to get insurance notes for physio and massage, so that I'm prepared in case of injury: I've had bouts of plantar fasciitis and chronic shin splints, so I need to be able to access my pit crew of pros in case of flare ups.
Next week, I'm joining a local group for weekly indoor running drills. I'm a little scared of this, as I'm not a speedy runner and I'm super uncoordinated.
All in all, I'm setting the conditions for running success and for a fantastic February.
