For those who are uninitiated, Mardi Gras is not just a day, but a whole "carnival season" here in New Orleans. New Orleanians are fond of saying "it's a marathon, not a sprint." Here's my Mardi Gras round up:
- Parades attended: 11
- Full days parading: 3
- Most miles biked in a day: 16
- Most miles walked in a day: 3.6
- Days I did not calorie track: 6
- Healthy success: Light beers & no hard liquor on Sunday
- Not-so-healthy day: Drank too much Tuesday morning without any lunch!
- Weight Gained: ZERO POUNDS!!!
Lent is really the beginning of the new year down here. People don't make New Year's resolutions in earnest until Lent. Lent is when we detox and commit to a healthier lifestyle...the largest road race in NOLA is always the Saturday before Easter, after everyone has dusted off their running shoes after Mardi Gras.
And I am ready. I am so so so ready. Read to feel well again (and not just "less horrible than anticipated"). I'm ready to really commit to this pre-wedding weight loss. I'm very very proud of the fact that I did not gain any weight and that I've lost over 5lbs through the holiday marathon that was Thanksgiving, my birthday, Christmas, New Year and then Carnival. But now is the down time. There's nothing pressing happening, just space to focus on eating clean, tracking and running.
