Resolution Progress

  • 10,000 steps a day - 7/7 and still going strong
  • Daily kettlebells - 2/7, the ‘bell is now in my room, but I just haven’t done very well at picking it up every day
  • Daily weigh-ins -7/7, the moving average is not doing exactly what i want, but it generally moves in the right direction
  • Daily food logging - 7/7, the Pact bet is really motivating, and the myfitnesspal app is pretty cool, love the barcode scanner
  • Weekly blog every Sunday - 0.5/1, it’s actually Monday, but I was at a wedding all day yesterday, and barely made it home before midnight, so I’m calling it a half

I very nearly had a great week on the food front.  Logging just makes me so much more mindful of what I eat, and helps me remember that my choices have consequences.  I tried courgetti (UK)/zoodles (US) last week, and completely fell in love.  Tasty deliciousness, that gives me that satisfying carb-like bulk and absorbs flavours and sauces beautifully.  Complete gamechanger.  What was once 300cal of empty carb pasta or noodles is now 40cal of nutrient packed omnom.  The low-cal element means I can have my favourite tasty sauces and dressings, because I already made such a saving on the pasta.  This evening I had courgetti with cream cheese and bacon.  Delicious. The plate was licked clean.

My downfall came at my friends’ wedding.  Pick-and-mix table. Hors d'oeuvres.  Three course lunch. Ice cream cart.  Massive BBQ buffet and fixings. Cake.  The groom telling us to have as much as we like because it was all refillable and he wanted to get his moneys worth.  I hadn’t had much breakfast (chocolate topped rice cakes), so I was easy prey at the beginning.  Then I decided it was ‘special’, a ‘treat day’ and that it wasn’t that different to my intake while on my all inclusive honeymoon. Not the point.  I did eat a lot, but on the up side, I did manage to do little things to help cut out calories I wouldn’t even have enjoyed:

  • I had my dinner roll without butter
  • I didn’t force myself to finish drinks (wine, prosecco, etc) that I wasn’t enjoying.  (Previously, I wouldn’t have wanted to ‘waste’ them, so would force myself to down them)
  • I had soda water and lime instead of regular sugary drinks
  • I had my hotdog without the bun
  • I had a taste of the bbq bits I wanted, not full portions of everything

So, I was not perfect.  I definitely ate more than I intended, but I definitely ate less than I would have a month ago.  So, that dragon may not be slain, but I’m definitely tightening its muzzle.

The exercise thing is a far more elusive beast.  There never seems to be a good time.  Mornings are busy and rushed.  Evenings are consumed with fitting in my steps or catching some precious time with the other half.  I just need to set anchor at some point in the day, and make that ‘when I always work out’.  I’ll start out with a set or two at a time and build from there.

Anyway, that’s just me checking in.  Hope everyone is hitting their goals!
