I got back from Japan in bad shape. Halfway through the two weeks something funny happened to my lower back and spread into my hips. It hurt to sit, stand, or lie still for any period of time. I felt okay walking but then as soon as I stopped the pain would come back. Japan has drug stores but their hours are strange and I could only get ibuprofen which, for me, has the same efficacy of pain treatment as pez.

I also gained about 10lbs.

I am glad to be stateside, gladder still to have a short work week. I made a doctor's appointment for Monday morning and I will get a physical therapy massage tomorrow. This morning I did arm work at the gym and I have been studious in my calorie tracking and rest.

I spent much of last night admiring how good Brendan Fraser looked in The Mummy and googling his role of hunky gardner to Ian McKellan in "Monsters & Men". I take a lot of my fitness inspiration from men, mostly because I find female "fitspiration" to mostly be thin-speak and big-boobed hotness. I watched Brendan Fraser, a very tall and goofy actor, do many of his own stunts and break ribs and other bones in the process.

I like the image of a strong, adventurous comedian. Chris Pratt had to give up a certain amount of physical comedy when he got sexy for Guardians of the Galaxy. I miss his hamminess. I want to be that, a bonkers, athletic, roaring goof.

And so I will keep doing whatever fitness I can while my hips and back heal. I won't give up.
