A few days ago I won a free gym membership for 40 days. Thanks KCF!
Started out day 1 with a nice 20 minute swim. Oops, the next day I discovered that my upper arm and shoulder muscles were a bit sore.
So I took a day off and went back to swim again 2 days later. Well, they were offering a free 90 minute fitness bootcamp that day. Since I had my workout gear in the car, I got dressed and jumped right in to the weight room instead of the pool. I felt so good afterwards, (tired but good) that I signed up for a month of training.
So much for that "free" membership.
Oh, yeah, you can guess what I felt like the next day. Every muscle I own was crying. So no workout again on day 4.
Returned to the gym on day 5 and they tortured me again. I would have never guessed that those really big exercise balls could be put to so many different uses.
You probably guessed that I'm taking another day off. My step counts this week are way low. My whole body feels swollen. I know my body is just healing itself from the healthy damage of weight lifting.
I know weight lifting is an important activity--it helps your body retain muscle mass when dieting. And before I won the free gym membership, I had only worked out with weights once in a month.
Seems like I need to find a bit of balance between the walking and hiking which I love to do and the lifting which I need to do.
