Happy Friday and Day 5 of the Diet Bet!
I finished Alpha Week 2 of T25 this morning, and I was just thinking about how T25 is a mind trick! 25 minutes passes extremely fast when I’m at the grocery store, in class, and even when writing/editing this blog - but 25 minutes with Shaun T is an eternity! I especially love the moments where I feel like I am dying, then look up and see that I’m only halfway done! But after the workout is finished, the realization of what I accomplished in 25 minutes is overwhelming - T25 is an optical illusion of time, and eliminates the excuse of “I don’t have time to exercise.”
Today, I had an idea of applying the concept of T25 to everyday life. The idea was that I was going to set my kitchen timer to 25 minutes and see what I could accomplish during that time. This idea manifested while being in a plank position during my T25 workouts this week.
While doing the shoulder tap / push up exercise during Total Body Circuit, I noticed that my carpet needed to be vacuumed. I didn’t get around to vacuuming that day and it wasn't a big deal. During Ab Intervals, where I was practically rolling around on the carpet, I really noticed that the carpet needed to be vacuumed but yet again, it was not exactly a pressing issue! Then, this afternoon I made the connection! The excuse for not exercising can be applied to why I procrastinate on small things that would be nice to accomplish - “I don’t have the time” is no longer a valid excuse because everyone can carve out 25 minutes in their day to exercise, and I certainly have the 10 seconds to whip out a vacuum!
On a side note, I know useless facts about celebrities - and an example is that I know when Amanda Seyfried exercises on an elliptical, she knits and listens to books on tape at the same time - she is multitasking and making amazing use out of her time! Amanda Seyfried is my multitasking inspiration for making the most use of my T25 Life Experiment: for 25 minutes I was going to accomplish as much as possible while also whitening my teeth with Crest Whitening Strips, and cooking hard boiled eggs as a food prep for future snacks.
I set my timer for 25 minutes and had the intention to move as fast as I could without stopping just like a T25 workout! Here is what I accomplished:
- unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher
-made bed
-vacuumed the rug in front of my television
-Since the vacuum was out, I vacuumed the edges of my kitchen where coffee grounds collected.
-decluttered my desk and threw away junk mail.
-called the Greensboro Opera ticket office and ordered a ticket so that my husband could see the performance tonight. Something I had procrastinated all week!
-Posted on Facebook about the Opera performance tonight to promote it!
With multitasking, I accomplished 10 things in 25 minutes! Small things, but once I looked up after the 25 minutes were over, my apartment was much cleaner, my husband had a ticket to the opera tonight, and I had whiter teeth! Score! :)
25 minutes is fast. It can also be an eternity and shit can also get done when a focus and a purpose is behind it!
Have a great weekend everyone!
