Hey all...  So, today is the first Saturday of the month.  In this house, that almost always includes a trip to home depot.  Why?  They have this neat opportunity for kids 5-12 to grab a hammer, some nails, and paint and build a little craft.  The kids get a little metal collectors pin (which shows a picture of the craft) and a big orange home depot apron (helps keep the paint off).  And perhaps best of all, its all FREE.  We've built little wooden cars, bird houses, planter boxes, storage boxes, and more.  The painting gets a little crazy (with the younger ones anyways) so don't dress up too fancy.

As a dad, I have to say, I look forward to it.  There is something to be said watching your 5 year old daughter whack a nail into some wood.  Its just fun.

And how many things in life anymore are truly "free"??  I actually have no idea how Home Depot justifies the expense of this, as I'm sure every store gives out 100 or more of the shink-wrapped wooden craft packages every month.  And they are really professionally made.  My daughter has probably 12 or more pins already, and she just loves covering her apron with new ones.  Kids walk in with their covered aprons like they are badges of honor, simliar to Scouts badges.

How does it relate to weight loss?  Ah, its just a way to get out there naturally and do something with your family.  Its neat to do something like this and not pay a dime.  It actually makes you WANT to support home depot, and if I was a betting man -- thats probably the idea.

If you have a 5-12 year old, and haven't tried out home depot kids craft day, its usually 9AM-noon on the first Saturday every month.  Check it out!  Google "home depot kids workshop" to make sure its at your store.

PS:  I'm down to 242.5 today.  The first months goal on some of my dietbets is within grasp!!!
