After several months of working 70+ hour weeks, I am finally on vacation! I plan to use the time wisely, and have scheduled workouts, classes, and even a cleaning and studying schedule to keep myself on track this week.
Yesterday, I was telling everyone that I wanted to lose 3 lbs by the end of this week. I woke up this morning, and was already 2 lbs down. Now i grabbling with myself, do I make a new 3 lb loss weight goal, or do I stick to my original one and potentially exceed it?
That debate is something I think everyone goes through every day.
When you don't make a goal, do you change it to make it easier, or do you keep the same goal and keep trying for it?
When you are succeeding at something, do you change the goal so that you have to keep working hard for it?
I think all the methods have their own positive aspects, but at the same time they each feel so oppresive. If you make the goal easier, will you think to yourself you copped out and didn't achieve anything at all? If you keep the same goal, and just keep trying for it, how will you keep motivated? If you start succeeding, and are almost at a goal and move it so you keep working... well you never get to feel that distinct pleasure of achieving the goal, do you?
The indesicion behind what the best choice is, is also a bit crippling. At least for anyone who has experience anxiety... what do you dooooo? *cries in corner*
When I can't make a decision, I make a compromise. I will wiggle my goal, so that I lose 2 lbs from today, not 1 or another 3. I also listen to music, dance, and just party. As important as goals are, it is also important to me to love what I am doing, to enjoy it for all it is.
So at 8 am on a frigid Canadian morning... work hard and play hard.
