I've struggled with weight and body issues my whole life. In high school, I successfully lost 60 lbs and reached a really healthy BMI. I used the Atkins diet to jumpstart my initial 10 pounds and after that... I got too extreme.

Now that I'm adult I know a lot more about my body and what a healthy weight loss should look like. I've had been planning to try being a vegan or vegetarian just as an experiement... but that's a bit too extreme for me, I love meat and I'm still breastfeeding, I need as much energy as I can get right now.

So for my healthy weight loss I'm eating a high protein diet and I've cut carbs and sugars COLD TURKEY! (In short, I'm loosely following the Paleo diet). It's really hard, the first 3-4 days there are drastic mood swings (sugar IS a drug!) But once you get over the hump it's so worth it! In 6 days I lost 4.2 pounds just from skipping the bread, the starches, and any sugary drinks. (Only drinking lemon water and coconut water) I feel great! And it's something I think is pretty sustainable.

Last night I really wanted tacos but to keep away from added sodium (which makes you retain water weight) I decided I probably had the spices in my cupboard to make the seasoning myself, and I did! You probably do too! Why haven't I been doing this all along? It's so easy. Here's my modified recipe below. (I'm going to have to get a lot better at making all my own seasonings and dressings). Cheers, good luck, and thanks for helping me stay accountable!

Homemade Taco Seasoning

1 tablespoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

1/4 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon paprika

1 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

It was delicious!
