The hardest part of this weight loss journey has been remembering I need to fuel my body. I am guilty as a mom of 4 of skipping meals (unintentionally). It sets me up for the cravings and endless days of out of control binge eating.
As a previous personal trainer (prior to having kids) I would lecture my client “ don’t starve your body, you will go into starvation mode and your body will hold the fat instead of burning.” Of course I said this before I knew that a normal day in a parents shoes is never ending, from the 6am wake up and get the older kids breakfast and on the bus to the last child off the bus and all the driving in between to get toddlers to nursery and preschools and that’s not including the after school activities.
By the time I sit down I realize oh my gosh I didn’t eat today.. and I’m starving.. I just want chocolate and potatoes chips and vanilla ice cream and anything else with in my grasp.
My friends have been pretty successful with their advocare and shakeology but to be honest I don’t want to invest that much in powder. I really wanted my shakes to be around the nutrition and the extra protien as a supplement. With that said I have come up with a few of my favorite shakes. I will start adding them so everyone can take advantage of the great taste and still reap the health benefit without having to lose fresh ingredients or break the bank.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Chia Shake:
2/3 cup dark chocolate almond milk (can substitute for your favorite soy or nut chocolate milk
1/2 avacodo
1tsp Chia seeds
1/4 tsp organic creamy peanut butter
1 tsp honey (I prefer swapping with a tsp of coconut sugar which also reduces the calories of this shake by another 30 calories.)
1 TBSP whey protien ( I use chocolate peanut butter meal replacement by ideal shake but you can use whatever is your favorite.)
1 handful of spinach/ kale or any other green leafy mix
1.) pour almond milk into blender, honey, whey protien and green leafy vegetables. Blend smooth
2.) add remainder of ingredients and 1/2 cup of ice. Blend smooth.
So this is a smoothie with 300 calories but before you give up on it and say way too many calories
this has 17 grams of protein
you are getting tons of fiber (more than 75%) your daily dose of fiber
you have your daily dose of good fats
This shake doesn’t leave you hungry or needing more. I can grab this in the morning and I am energized ready to go. Cravings are easily curved.
You can make this batch and share with a few friends as a dessert. Divide it 4 ways and a satifying 75 calorie dessert.
bon appetite everyone!
